DescriptionPhil Lesh & Friends
Hammerstein Ballroom, New York, NY
February 18, 2006

A few people wrote me requesting this alternate version of last nights show. Not to detract from Rob Clarke’s excellent recording, as I said, this is just an alternate take of the same show for those who may be interested.

Recorded by Taper Advocat from the Taper Section in the Mezz., left of center (that was as close to center as they would allow).

What Analog > Digital converter was used? Does the Reutelhuber Box do A>D? Thanks.
taperadvocat 2006-02-19 22:15:43

I understand your question as follws:

What process did I use to convert my recording from A > D?

There is no A > D conversion in my process as I record on DAT (Digital Audio tape). My recording is digital in the original instance.

To my understanding all mic's are analog. The Reutelhuber box is merely the phantom power source for the mics. The Reutelhuber box plugs into the "line in" input of the PCM-M1 DAT. The circuitry within the M1 records the input sound in digital format on the DAT tape. (Something in the back of my mind says that the M1 uses the same circuitry as the SBM. Others with more technical knowledge may expound on that for us.)

Hope that answers your question.

Yes. Thank you for the answer. The A>D converter is that within the M1. It is not the same as the SBM-1, though I don't know the technical differences.

We worked till just past midnight building the catapult.

Being President's Day and a day off from school, my son had a few friends over for a belated birthday celebration.

My wife says the boys spent the greater part of the afternoon outside and had a great time launching all sorts of objects (which the dog dutifully retreived for them).

Thanks for asking.
