patch notes:
there were a several very drop-outs/digi-errors during "Bathtub Gin"
these were present on the DAT and were fixed by patching in the following source:
AKG C 568 EB's -> Aerco Pre-Amp -> Sony D-8
http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=29566

the patch source was used at the following locations in Bathtub Gin:
[01:36.2] to [01:41.0]
[04:18.3] to [04:21.5]
[05:10.5] to [05:14.0]
[05:50.5] to [05:54.2]
at each point, I cross-faded the patched source to make the transition smooth.

Important news from bt.etree.org!

Begining on March 17 2006, all torrents seeded at bt.etree must
include 1) checksum files (.md5, .ffp) that include a checksum for
every lossless audio file in the fileset, and 2) a copy of those
checksums pasted into the torrent description, so everyone can see
them without downloading the fileset.

If you seed a torrent without this information, it will be deleted.
We're telling you this now, so you'll know.

Of course, if there is a problem, we'll try to contact you and help
to fix it. If you don't have a valid e-mail address on your
db.etree.org account, please take a moment to add one. If we can't
contact you, we can't help you, and it be very frustrating for
everyone. Seeders who don't have valid e-mail addresses may find
their logins disabled.

This message will appear on all torrents seeded to bt.etree until
everyone has gotten the message. If your torrent has checksum files
and lists them in the description, thank you! If not, please take a
moment to edit the torrent description to include them. If you have
to add the checksum files from scratch, you'll have to pull this
torrent and start over. Sorry about that.

For help generating checksums, please visit
http://wiki.etree.org or
http://forums.etree.org/viewtopic.php?t=7025. If you have specific
questions, please post them at http://forums.etree.org and someone
will help you ASAP. Please do NOT e-mail us directly.

Thanks, and happy downloading.

These were fun shows. Thanks for the new source.
capt_chaos 2006-11-29 17:59:36
jason, thanks for all the hard work recently
bigeyesteve 2006-11-29 21:30:50
Word up to jim... I believe I have the masters or at least a 2nd gen w/out the pops. We shared this rig thru out this tour. I tend to be kind of a recluse tho.
dmlindsay90 2006-11-29 22:01:42
Anyone have any comments on how this compares to the Schoeps MK5 (FOB) version?

Thanks !
dmlindsay90 2006-11-29 22:17:10
A bit off topic, but I thought this would be a good place to ask....Did weekapaug.net go away. I was going to head there to look for 10/2/95, which is the last remaining show that I attended for which I have no digital copy...just the dusty tape that I have had for years.

Since I can't seem to grovel there, I guess I just did so here....

dmlindsay90 2006-11-29 23:47:51
.....right.

Thanks gainesville....

Man, sometimes I just wish I woulda looked a litle bit harder before askin' a simple question.

I'll check there for that show.
Tiger2 2006-12-01 15:02:21
Yes please, I second dmlindsay - please someone with both versions, compare to Derek G's Schoeps source? I have 1st gen of those, they are ok but not among Derek's best. Would be interested in an upgrade but not another merely decent source.

The Gorge is a tricky place to tape, with the wind. I have heard many poor/phased recordings from there, but then I also have an FOB of 2nd night '99 which is among the finest AUDs I own.
Tiger2 2006-12-01 15:03:02
ah! and If I had waited a minute I would have seen that too. Thaks!
jamas 2006-12-01 21:52:53
Definitely take this over the mk5 source. Both are excellent, but this has a bit more 'up front' feel.

Cheers!
bretts 2006-12-02 04:23:04
It would be in everyones best interest to own both sources and decide for yourself.

This recording, IF YOU DWNLOAD ANYTHING, is worth a "few hundred" mb's to your hard drive. You compare,
I just listen.............

Hopefully we can keep shaking the tree and get some more tasty fob neumann nugets out there...............
easyjim 2006-12-06 01:42:35
Personally, I like the AKG 568 source better than either FOB source, both of which seem less balanced to me and more plagued by phasing and crowd issues.

FWIW, however, I am biased as one of the two tapers that ran the AKG rig.
bretts 2006-12-16 02:12:58
IMO, This source does not seem to be as extreme as you lead on!

The major issues I noticed is the patch, which almost sounded like phazing. In fact crowed noise is minor, which being a FOB can be give or take, but it was the gorge after all.....

Plus they still havn't invented the perfect human mic stand.

Wasn't the ots tapes also plagued w/wind/phazing issues as well???????????

But Jim and Steve did an amazing job, as well as all other tapers.

Being almost 10 years old, if you are hell bent on your source of choice, then a new source could be hard to take, but this is another great gem unearthed by Dave, Jason and original tapers, which begs to differ!!!!!!
