Important news from bt.etree.org!

Begining on March 17 2006, all torrents seeded at bt.etree must
include 1) checksum files (.md5, .ffp) that include a checksum for
every lossless audio file in the fileset, and 2) a copy of those
checksums pasted into the torrent description, so everyone can see
them without downloading the fileset.

If you seed a torrent without this information, it will be deleted.
We're telling you this now, so you'll know.

Of course, if there is a problem, we'll try to contact you and help
to fix it. If you don't have a valid e-mail address on your
db.etree.org account, please take a moment to add one. If we can't
contact you, we can't help you, and it be very frustrating for
everyone. Seeders who don't have valid e-mail addresses may find
their logins disabled.

This message will appear on all torrents seeded to bt.etree until
everyone has gotten the message. If your torrent has checksum files
and lists them in the description, thank you! If not, please take a
moment to edit the torrent description to include them. If you have
to add the checksum files from scratch, you'll have to pull this
torrent and start over. Sorry about that.

For help generating checksums, please visit
http://wiki.etree.org or
http://forums.etree.org/viewtopic.php?t=7025. If you have specific
questions, please post them at http://forums.etree.org and someone
will help you ASAP. Please do NOT e-mail us directly.

Thanks, and happy downloading.

Fantastic! Thank you Sean and Bill for this!
harrytuttle 2007-01-03 01:16:55
oh, man! I'm going to have to get another harddrive, just dedicated to all the fantastic stuff that you're sharing, whynotus. Thanks for this, as well as the many others.
Freeborn_Man 2007-01-03 01:32:01
Bill, this is great...you just keep on rolling 'em out.
I can't recall which sets I have and on what format of some of these things, but your transfers are so sweet! I appreciate the additions and upgrades.

Thanks for all the work. Really. I was thinking today how 10 years ago I donated some bluegrass DAT's and cassette masters to a friend/achrivist at the the Smithsonian and was wondering what other archivists do with such voluminous and diverse recordings.

This site is one of the best ways to preserve the music and pass it down, like a folk tradition....cool.

Well said, Freeborn_Man.

"Thanks again, Bill."

these Acoustic All Star shows are always unbelievable, I cant wait to hear this one, thank you for your effort and seeding!

(hate to do this, but I lost an old AAllStars show that had Victor Wooten on it and the rest of the All Star Crew. I think it might have been 95, but cant remember, anyone know this show date???)
jbird21 2007-01-03 09:24:10
I love to tell this story......
This set started at 2am in the morning, and went til 3:15 am, after 14 hours of excellent music in the hot son, but not as hot as the previous day I have heard. We were woken up that morning by some sort of weather annomily, an 80 MPH gust of wind blew through & pretty much levelled the place, tents flying & lawn chairs in the air, no-one was hurt & allowed for some nice seating down close. This was my first Winterhawk & I haven't missed one since, we drove from Arlington Virginia pretty much for the schedualed "Midnight Jam" but the whole day delivered. Tim & Mollie & The O'Boys, The Nashville Bluegrass Band,The Rowan Brothers & A Peter Rowan & Friends Set that is an all-time keeper, plus a few others I can't recall at the moment. And while there have been some great times on that hill since, this may be the best I've ever been to.

I'll add my thanks for all these fresh transfers of amazing shows, I too have many in DAT format but do not have the time to transfer myself to the much more user friendly computer or CD-r

More hard drives please!!
whynotus 2007-01-03 10:08:19
Thanks for the kind words about the transfers. I really want to know what you all think of the sound of these and if they are an upgrade to the existing sources in circulation. The fact is they can be better in terms of the edits due to WaveLab i can do the crossfades at the tape flips and I can Maximize the levels with the L3 plugin. I sometimes wonder if I make the recordings too "hot" , that is up the levels too much. I would really appreciate this type of feedback. You may also nitice that whaen I do the tracking I often track the banter, band intros and the applause before the encores (I name that crowd in the text). I feel this way you can skip over that when listening and get to the music.

Another little dirty secret is that I go digtal out of the best sounding DAT into my Tascam CD-RW700 and then analog out in to the M-Audio soundcard and bring it into the CP /WaveLab @ 24 bit / 44.1 and then do the editing at these rate because there is more data to work with. This technique is somewhat contraverisial with the GD community - see neo_levos seeds of my DAT Oakland Coliseum 10.27.91 and my seed of Chris' transfer of GD Saratoga 06/27/85. The fact is I really belive the tapes are improved. What do you think, not about the technique How do these transfers sound?

jbird. I'd love to meet you at Grey Fox this July, I have sent for my tix already. I would also love to have a stab at any of your DATs to transfer, they will be in good hands. get in touch with me. Bill
gobosox05 2007-01-03 20:48:50
The sound is perfect, the performance other-worldly. Thanks so much for sharing this insanely great set.
jbird21 2007-01-04 08:52:11
Definitely Bill, we should meet there, already got my tickets as well, we camp in the Lower Dry Branch/O'Brien Way area
Kovinis 2007-01-04 19:21:22
Hi Bill, I can't thank you enough for all the fantastic shows you continually are putting up. I just finally put up a couple of shows on Dime and never realized how much work goes into uploading a show. Please keep them coming! I can never get too many Jerry Douglas shows.
