Important news from bt.etree.org!
Begining on March 17 2006, all torrents seeded at bt.etree must
include 1) checksum files (.md5, .ffp) that include a checksum for
every lossless audio file in the fileset, and 2) a copy of those
checksums pasted into the torrent description, so everyone can see
them without downloading the fileset.
If you seed a torrent without this information, it will be deleted.
We're telling you this now, so you'll know.
Of course, if there is a problem, we'll try to contact you and help
to fix it. If you don't have a valid e-mail address on your
db.etree.org account, please take a moment to add one. If we can't
contact you, we can't help you, and it be very frustrating for
everyone. Seeders who don't have valid e-mail addresses may find
their logins disabled.
This message will appear on all torrents seeded to bt.etree until
everyone has gotten the message. If your torrent has checksum files
and lists them in the description, thank you! If not, please take a
moment to edit the torrent description to include them. If you have
to add the checksum files from scratch, you'll have to pull this
torrent and start over. Sorry about that.
For help generating checksums, please visit
http://wiki.etree.org or
http://forums.etree.org/viewtopic.php?t=7025. If you have specific
questions, please post them at http://forums.etree.org and someone
will help you ASAP. Please do NOT e-mail us directly.
Thanks, and happy downloading. |

| ill be the first toi say, having seeded this, that the pitch runs fast. Not unlistenable, but it is. But its' what i was given, and I seeded it. |

Is this a new transfer from DAT? I already have two
versions of this in SHN format, both early show. One
is 477mb and the other is 340mb SHNID=10135 |

| You're right, rusty, it's fast, a full tone sharp. Deep Elem, which is in E maj, is in F# maj on this recording, other tracks follow suit. |

| Guess that rules out the lineage of DSBD->DAT, huh ? |

Not necessarily. Once when I was taping to my laptop my A/D converter was sending a 48 khz signal via USB to my laptop, but Cool Edit was recording at 44.1 khz. The result was the same, a full step up in pitch. I think something like that must have happened here, but where is uncertain. Jamie, who seeded this over at Lossless Legs, said this:
"its the PCM > dat issue im sure, and yer rite, with more familiar tunes and voices, it wouldda been apparent. the pristine nature of the source had me NOT checking against other sources. a mistake. But there was no change insource during resample. i listened . same on raw as seeded version."
Teddy Goodbear demurs and believes it's a cassette master, but IMHO that would involve several C gens, and this source is way too clear for that.
Whatever the reason, just be warned. |

| Exactly as btet said. Anyways, I have fixed this by adjusting the pitch, removing the dropouts, and retracking. I'll seed the flac files later tonight. Cheers, MM |

that very cool...Im usually shy away from fixing pitch and now use more methods to verify anything i DO see is correct or I leave it alone. Thus a 1971 upgrade source sits unseeded....
cant wait for the pitch adjust:) |
| rustystrings |
2007-03-10 15:25:47 |
| the undithered source is also available as well, mcole, as i suspect some severe quantization errors may occur on the time shift since this went thru L2 type 1 dither process. jamie |

2007-03-10 16:11:28 |
| What are quantization errors? I've heard about them, but have no idea what they entail. Thanks. |

funky math is how i understand...
in laymens terms, re editing sources can make some wierd ass sounds from the funky math... |

i meant to say......
re editing DITHERED SOURCES in above comment..... |

No need to worry about that kind of stuff since pitch shift merely entails taking the entire wav and either compressing it or expanding it. When you select "keep pitch constant with length" then there are no anomalies whatsoever in the final rendered wav. To get this source at A = 440Hz, I expanded the length of the wav by approximately 4 min 48 sec. The actual pitch change was approximately 1.57 steps lower.
