|Thanks so much for posting this. Kind of funny story (to me at least) - was listening to this about half an hour ago and thought it sounded like absolute garbage, as if you had pillows wrapped around your mic and thought to myself, why in the world would he release this source? Then I remembered the post above about how it sounded at the balcony and thought to myself no way the sound in the venue was this bad. Went to check my soundcard and for some reason it was playing the files at 8,000 kHz! Quickly changed it to 44.1k and it sounds so much better, ha.
|I'm really enjoying the sound and playing on this... thank you
I am hearing some static here and there in the 2nd set, but it could just be my computer... many torrents and such running =D
|i think this recording sounds great (especially considering the rowdy/chatty crowd) -- thanks for taping & seeding this awesome show!
at the show i thought the 1st set was much better than the 2nd, but upon re-listening, i think i was just bothered by that dipshit who hit billy martin with a beer can (in the 2nd set). it seems to have bothered me more than it bothered the performers, ha
|...oh, and for those of you who weren't there, that's what all the "boos" and "fuck yous" at the beginning of "back and forth" are about: some asshat lobbed a can way up in the air, which unintentionally hit billy martin in the back of the head (he had his back to the crowd for the moment).
the cheers that follow are in response to billy turning around and taunting the crowd, challenging whoever had done it to do it again, that sort of thing. he was a really good sport about it, and i was really embarrassed for my home state, even though the "perp" was almost certainly a tourist.
but from that moment on, i felt like they were having a little more trouble hooking up with each other & with logic. maybe it was just my perception, as none of my friends felt the same way (very few of them saw the "can incident" either, for whatever that's worth). listen to the set and decide for yourself.
having said all that, this really was a great show. don't hesitate to download it.
|FWIW: The opening tune of Set II is brand new, we think. It was also played 4/13/2007 at the Fillmore (d2t02 on Mike's AKG source), so I'm dubbing it "Fillmore Freak" for now until we get an actual name....so here's an updated setlist:
D1 Set 1
3. New New Orleans
4. Cat Creeps->
7. New Planet
D2 Set 2 With DJ Logic
1. "Fillmore Freak"
2. "New '07"
3. Back & Forth
4. What'd I Say?->
5. What'd I Say? cont'd
6. Spy Kiss->
7. After The Onsen
|this d1t2 improv is dark! reminds me of some of the stuff they did in london september 2005. very nice.
|hey duggy - i really don't think those should all be segues in the setlist....but to each his own :)
i mean between tubby-dracula-NP the music drops out before the new song begins.....little too liberal segue use for my tastes.
same goes for the spy kiss->onsen....i wouldn't list that as a segue
Yeah, it's gonna make it up here in the next few days, as well as some Charlie Hunter 8)
|I do believe track 1 disc 2 is I Need More Love-Live On from Robert Randolph And The Family Band --- mmw style of course
|or at least a tease of it
|bt_dumpy, you couldn't post an mp3 of that Randolph tune on sendspace or something so we could have a listen? Or point me to where I could grab the track elsewhere if you know of a spot?
|thanks for the post (& dumpstaphunk). any chance of the show that followed mmw going up?
|also - i've never heard "back & forth" anywhere else (even though everyone says it's from the children's album & the song is posted in other live shows) but it sounds like a loose cover of 1 or several tracks from Konono #1's "congotronics" album. so check that out if you like back & forth - the album is great. the Ex also has a similar song "theme from konono" on their album "turn"
|duggy - try this:
dumpy's referring to the chorus of the song above (which goes "i need more love ev-e-ry-day of my life"), and there's a section in this MMW tune (D2T1) that plays a melody that DOES sound similar to that aforementioned chorus. not exactly the same, and IMO it's definitely not a "tease" or "homage" or anything, just two songs that draw from a basic/common/familiar theme.
|Trio, from 5-6-07, opening for Dumpstaphunk, now up at http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=506638

does anyone have Garaj A Medeski from last year?
we all wish
|The lead in to New New Orleans was "Miles Ahead." Not sure about the opening tune though.
