Thelma Theater, Los Angeles, December 10, 11 & 12, 1969
Copies from the soundboard reels of these shows have circulated since the '70s, sometimes mislabled "Kaleidoscope Theater, LA," often with dates and sequences mixed up, usually in badly degraded sound quality. This set assembles complete copies of the 11th and the 12th in the best quality circulating. Except for the middle portion of the 11th, sound is excellent throughout; this inferior segment is listenable while leaving definite room for improvement if an upgrade shows up; we haven't been able to find one & don't want to delay further.
Many people gave help on the way to creating this set of CDs. Dave Greenberg did the final masters. Jack Warner was instrumental in providing the difficult composite for the 2nd disc of 12/11/69, which was first mastered by Scott Clugston. RB, KW, JN and HB also provided important assistance. Jim Powell instigated the project and writes these notes. SHN conversion by Jay Gerland.

Important news from bt.etree.org!
Begining on March 17 2006, all torrents seeded at bt.etree must
include 1) checksum files (.md5, .ffp) that include a checksum for
every lossless audio file in the fileset, and 2) a copy of those
checksums pasted into the torrent description, so everyone can see

| damn, i loved this show to death first time i heard it; and while one may find problems with the sound/mix here and there, that most certainly didn't stop me from returning again and again; hell, it's '69 dead, enough said; enjoy |

Actually, late '69 Dead is not my favorite period and is dry in general.
This show, however, is an oasis. Get it, it's definitely worth hearing and in my opinion easily blows away everything done in November with the exception of those cute little "Uncle John's Band" jams. |

I fell in love with this show when David Gans played it on GDH in the late 80s, had trouble finding even an inferior cassette sbd or aud in those days. "Sound problems or not" -- and some of these 69 masters suffered damage as well as age, so give 'em a break -- this is pretty good quality, and the music shines through, serious "primal" sweaty dancehall Dead with a hard groove, esp. the extended Alligator/Caution section. This is what the tribe has passed down through the centuries of gatherings. Please play loud.
