for starters, i like marco benevento's music. i also like the music of bob weir.
but you're saying that just because he played in the grateful dead (which has been over now for a decade +), he deserves to break into someone else's already short timeslot?
from a production standpoint, you're just Dead Wrong. it's a multi-band festival, not a weir lovefest. (ESPECIALLY if all he's going to do is punch the clock with another 'touch of grey'.)
i'm glad marco was able to get his ya-yas out at the ropeadope stage this year with a couple of improv sets. i'm likewise very happy to have been present for the improv ratdog set earlier on saturday. they both seemed to be having a lot of fun!
/the answer is 'no'

Sorry Pedro... I have to disagree with you.
My wife and I drove over 14 hours to get there... and it wasn't to see number 15 on the lineup! Ratdog wasn't just Headlining that night, but they headlined the whole festival! From a production standpoint... #1 on the bill draws more people, and more money, than #15.
Regardless of the reason... Ratdog was the headliner.. and the headliner takes priority. They get to "break into someone else's already short timeslot", not because Bobby played in the Grateful Dead over a decade ago, or because he played in The Dead a few years ago, but because they are the Headlining act!
Some festivals run on a tight schedule. They are close to town and subject to noise restrictions. This was on a mountain, in the middle of nowhere, with music lasting practically all night. If the headliner I drove all that way for, had to skip their encore, just so the late-night opener could start on time, I would have been pissed!
If you drove a long way to see the Duo, I understand your frustration... but they had a short set, because they were number 15 on the lineup! And, when it comes down to it... they did play a whole set.
I like festies... because I get the chance to see new bands and discover new music. I really was interested in seeing the Duo, because I liked GRAB. It turns out that I'm glad I didn't have to pay extra for the opportunity! Just realize that half the people left when the Duo started playing.
And finally... What's wrong with Touch of Grey!

| VOTE FOR SLEEPY PEDRO! Bob Weir's set was arrogant and boring. Even the hippies were just standing around at the end. Sorry to break it to ya, but STS9 was headlinging All Good this year. With all due repect - Bob has led, and he has helped bring us here. But now it is time for him to follow or get out the way! |

Sorry Tony... but number 9 on the list of bands is NOT where the headliners name goes! Think about it... headlines are on the top of pages, not a third of the way down!
I know that STS9 was the main draw for the ravers, and they were obviously your favorite act, but that doesn't mean they headlined the festival! They were #9!
I stayed for the STS9 set, and to be honest, I thought it was great! My generation invented the rave, but last time I "rolled" into one, the "artist" played a turntable. "Bad Boy Bill" on 4 turntables... it kind of sucked. These guys played instruments! I was very impressed... but they were a late night act... maybe the main one, but still, not a headliner! I'm sorry, but your opinion has no bearing on the way the event was advertised!
p.s. A boring set is different for everyone. It's an opinion. I think 1 drum and 1 keyboard is pretty boring. But... Could you describe for me, what makes a set arrogant? |

| Whoops, I did have a typo there - I meant to say Moe. was the headliner, not STS9 so your comments regarding them are quite valid. As far as where a band is listed on the bill, well that is just silly. All I know is most of the people I spoke with were there to see either Moe or STS9 and not Ratdog. What is an arrogant set? One that that goes an hour long when thousands of people are waiting to hear the next two bands. One that drags the last three songs at a snail's pace, practically taunting those who are there for the electronica to follow. One which is followed up by the absolute butchering of Marco's name in the "introduction" if you can call it that. Yes it was arrogant, and yes, in my opinion, it was boring. I was there with one of my best friends who is a HUGE Dead fan (he was naming the songs DSO would play before they did) and he was dissapointed in Ratdog. So I know I am not alone. Sorry, but Bob was wrong on this one. |

Again... Sorry Tony... but you give yourself, and those you spoke with, far more credit than you deserve! First of all, Ratdog didn't go an hour over like you claim. Secondly, to think they were playing slowly in order to taunt you, and those that were there for electronica, is just as arrogant as it is absurd! Finally, do you really think Bobby, or anyone in Ratdog, introduced and mispronounced your guy's name? To think they SHOULD know the proper pronunciation is what I find arrogant!
You can't really think... "As far as where a band is listed on the bill, well that is just silly". Regardless of what you or anyone you spoke with thinks, there is a reason for that order! To think otherwise just shows your ignorance.
Let me wager that you and those you spoke with, were among the younger attendees. You were all located in the G.A. camping area, and the others were right around your tent or along the path out to the main road. If not, you discussed this while watching your favorite bands. That's not a random sample and is not really representative of those in attendance. Do you realize there were many different camping areas, including ones for families, ones for RVs, and ones for VIPs (rich people)?
Even though moe was the Saturday night headliner, they were #2 on the bill. To say that moe and STS9 headlined the festival, because that's who your friends came to see, is beyond arrogant. That's egocentric!

"My friend the dead-head calls the next song at DSO shows before they even play them.".....a real tough thing to do when they are simply repeating a set of music played sometime in the past. Funny youngsters!!!!
Great Rat Dog show! |

| All I know is you could feel the darkness creeping in when Bobby left the stage. When I first started going to raves back in 93 love was all there was in that scene. Now Its black hoodies, blank stares and very few smiles. Music should be a celebratory experience, scary sometimes but something to be shared and revel in. To me Lotus was a much better band than STS9 at All GOOD and Ive been seeing STS9 for the better part of a decade so I'm not just talking shit. |

and fwiw, MOE headlined the festival. thats why they got the saturday headlining spot AND hosted the all-star jam. im sure bobby wouldve been too good to host tahts et anyway. the old bastard is prolly in bed by then anyway :P :)
and im gonna torrent my ratdof later tonight. its one of the last sets left. there is some level adjustments at the very beginning of teh set. but after the initial levels ettings, the rest of teh show is golden and no music is missing :) |

| bobby wasn't in bed, he was another state over at a different show rocking out to crowds just as large as where he plays everywhere. i think its ironic that his music is all love and it spawns so much hate.. |

| Do you think the guys in moe would go on stage, and play a couple tunes with Ratdog... if they were invited? Would they be honored, or think it was an arrogant request that would be too boring? |

| Unless my memory is all whacked(which is true to an extent) I believe Bob and moe have already played together :) |

for comparisons sake and to have the whole show with no missing, here are the links to my source for this show. Since Ratdog/Bobby just started to allow uploads at Archive.org again(just happened in the last day or two) I upped my source to the LMA first, and now I'm torrenting it to spread the word that newer shows that are post 2003 are now allowed at the LMA....Sorry to somewhat highjack your torrent, but Im just letting folks know there is anotehr source and that LMA now allows new uploads :) Enjoy!

| Did anyone tape The Duo's set? I thought it was the best set of the festival. |

| Didnt think it was the greatest Ratdog show i have ever been to, but who could feed off the energy of the crowd of those gangsters and ravers and frat boys. Horrible fest, i hope for everyones sake bobby never goes back to that mt. of extreme drug abuse. Anyway just my two sense. Plus everyone knows that the boys are best seen up close and personal |
