PHRIED PHISH 1997 (U.S. Flavour) - A History of the Jams
Well, I've made up another collection of just the jams. Having
trimmed off the actual 'songs' themselves and just
grabbed the improvisations, I find it an interesting way to follow
the course of how the band evolved over the year; I'm just making
my way backwards because I started with my favourite part: PHALL '97.
So here's what grabbed me from the U.S. Summer Tour that I thought
I'd share again.
- Please excuse some of the edits; I'm obiviously not a professional.
- Each track fades in and fades out.
- Volume level is inconsistent due to the variety of sources used;
some software will allow you to burn at a consistent volume level
- The tracks list the tunes from which the jams were spawned.
- As always, enjoy the grooves!

| HA! It's funny you say ^^that^^ about the lack of Reba jams because I thought of that just this past summer as I was listening to these compilations, that I never included any Reba jams at all...which was odd because I heard the tune 3 times in Europe and LOVED each version in its own way...London had a cool groove...Strasbourg's Reba was fiery and intense after the opening Wolfman's in Set II, and then hearing the tune in that old church, The Paradiso, in Amsterdam was just right...so all I'm saying is I love the tune and can't imagine why except that I just got lost in most of the other more variant improv tunes I guess...that and the fact that they only played it 10 times all year: 4 on the Feb-March European tour, the 3 I just mentioned, 1 on 8/9/97, 1 on 11/17/97 and the last of the year on 12/7/97...very sparse time for Reba.... |

| Ha, I was wondering about the Reba jams, myself. Have to say again how enjoyable these are. Hmm, just wondering - would you consider doing a summer 98 project? Euro version 6/30/98 - 7/10/98, US version 7/15/98 - 8/16/98. |

| Yeah, I've got the reba comp, the tweezer comp, and the stash comp. I must have missed the gin comp. What I meant (and what I think the other guy meant), is that we noticed that there weren't any rebas in these phried phish comps. Not complaining whatsoever, it's just interesting to note. |

I have the Reba compilation, which is pulled from over various years...it's a fantastic disc. I'll seed it shortly....
But, I'm also going to make a 1997 Reba disc in the same vein...the guy that made the original suggested folks try their own with their favourite Rebas....so, I'm gonna do so for '97...ESPECIALLY since I left the tune off these collections...d'oh!

I've been looking for the phried phish 1997 fall comp to show up . . . and any thoughts on a euro / us summer 98 comp? Maybe that stuff doesn't float your boat like 97 does. But I enjoyed summer 98, too, especially the european shows. Thanks again for these awesome compilations! |

hargriz, I've got compilations like this in the works for all years covering 1995-2000 actually -- I just have to finish them at some point! HA! That's always the challenge: finding the time...I'd say watch for some 1998 compilations to start popping up later in 2008...

| Well, it's great to hear that you're going to keep producing these, duggy! My vote is for euro 98, next. :) Anyway, wondering what people use for batch normalization. I'm particularly interested in mp3 normalization - that's how I listen to these - vbr mp3s - and I found mp3gain, a free app that will normalize without re-encoding. Any free apps out there that will batch normalize wavs? |
