Woody In Yo' Face
This is another of my On-Stage recordings. This will be the best yet.
If I were able to post samples here, I think every Mule collector would
D/L this source. Some parts of this sound nothing short of stunning.
Listen to it with headphones, and you are right there- front row center
during a 1999 Mule show. Vocals are a bit low but much much better than
previous uploads. The sound of Woody's Bass tone on here is unreal, as it
is the natural tone, straight from his stack. Merry Christmas Mule Fans!

| Thanks a lot. You're Louisville '97 show with Chris Duarte which you seeded last month is great. Based on all of the great comments, I expect this one to be equally as awesome. |

Cool show, thanks. But I wouldn't rate the sound quality A/A+. More like B/B+. Woody's sound is tremendous, but vocals are much lower than I prefer. Don't get me wrong, I greatly appreciate the upload, as I do from everyone, and the work that all tapers put in, but I guess the way this was presented increased my expectations of sound quality a little too much.
The other thing that brings this one down are the two or three "screamers" that must have been standing next to the mics. Just through the first 4 tracks I must've jumped outta my skin 5 or 6 times. I'm all for getting some crowd noise in a recording to get that "feel" of the live show, but damn! |

I left town on a Duarte Jazz road-trip right on the day this was first snatched, so coming home and finding it snatched 444 times was very cool. It was also cool reading all the comments, except for one.
The"steve devries" post was predictable, because I've noticed a pattern. Anytime I just post a show with a basic description, I get cool feedback. But ANY time I show a bit of happiness or satisfaction in a recording, no matter how accurately I describe the sound quality. I get a guy like this making up their own personal ratings scale and applying a ridiculously poor grade to my upload.
To you, "steve". I have always said(in regards to people who don't record, but download and feel inclined to complain or be critical of the results) that the ONLY thing that an up-loader owes to the down-loaders is a basic, truthful description of the the contents, the process, and the gear used. In this case I went far beyond that, including a very specific mention of the vocal level. You have no place to be complaining, because the recording is exactly as described. Perhaps your reading skills are poor?
More importantly, i need to inform you that the "ratings scale" has never been something that is subject to personal taste. If it were, nobody would have any idea what to expect sound-wise. You wrote "I wouldn't rate the sound quality A/A+. More like B/B+. Woody's sound is tremendous, but vocals are much lower than I prefer". You don't rate a show good or bad based on the mix you "prefer" to hear. There are many factors that go into quality ratings; the strength of the signal, the warmth and depth of the sound, the balance of the highs, lows, and mids, the proximity to the stage or sound sources, etc. By your idea of ratings, I'd rate most soundboard recording B- because I usually hate the mixes, they tend to lack warmth, and the vocals are usually too dry and upfront for my tastes. Thank God
that's not how ratings work.
Your comments would have been fine had you not injected that insane rating which is typically reserved for the distant, the distorted, and the gen'd out. You also wrote "I greatly appreciate the upload, as I do from everyone, and the work that all tapers put in", but your insulting(even if mis-guided) rating for a recording that I am(and according to other comments, many others are) happy with is a funny way of showing it.
