| Thank You, Thank You, THANK YOU. I've been looking for this one for a while now. Mostly for my dad and some of his buddies, it was one of the few dead shows they were able to atttend. I've heard it is quite a gem. |

| gem is right. It's been said before, but bears repeating, 73 is the dead at their transcendental, jazzy, poetic best. With 1 drummer the band was more cohesive, launching into exploratory flights both as individuals and as a unit at the same time. For example, check out bird song. Kreutzman's drumming - locomotive, loose, and free. The band is unhurried, organically ebbing and flowing to the rolling ocean of their own making. I love 80's dead, but it doesn't hold up to 73. |

| Well said about 73 Dead kayatosh. |

| to refine the comment, I prefer songs with long improvisational possibilities, like eyes, bird song, playin, dark star, and these songs really shine in 73. jazzy |

Charlie Miller, you have done and incredible job with this one.
I slapped "lot to laugh train to cry" and "that's alright mama" on my portable flac playing device (iaudio) and listened through headphones. what a performance! The interplay of the guitars is delicious, and the sound is great. Garcia rippin that solo 1 min into Mama with bobby and dickey strumming along like it was mardi gars in New Orleans - as good as it gets. Thank you.
PEACE |

| Wow, kayatosh. I've never been so excited for a show - and I got 15 minutes left to download!! It seems summer '73 gets overlooked more often for the early and late periods of '73. Just my experience, at least. I recall from some article that even Dick Latvala breezed over most of summer '73 to talk about his favorite shows from the year. Major kudos to Charlie Miller for cleaning up that amazing 06.22.73 BC show and seeding it not too long ago. Another GREAT rendition of Bird Song in that one, among others. Whoah! I'm at four minutes now!! Best be going. This was such a fertile period for the Dead - well, it's '73!!!!!!!!! |

This IS a great show. I haven't listened to it in a while, but disc 4 is a definite fav. I know the NFA>GDTRFB>NFA had some nasty cuts in it in the old days, and I listened to the crossfade which is MUCH better. Is the whole show a significant sound upgrade? I don't get too into reburning shows unless the show is really good and the upgrade is significant.
Any thoughts on sound improvement? I rated the other SBD>MR>DAT show an "A" when I first got it. |

Well, you deadheads were right. Having never seen them and having to get all of my dead experiences from this site downloading show after show, after listening to all of this one I can see why it is so highly reguarded. "They Love Each Other" and "Eyes of the World" are absolutely beautiful and soo tight in the groove, among many. It's unfortunate that I never was able to experience them in person, but I am sooo very grateful that you all carry on their legacy so passionately.
And my pops sends his reguards as well, he hasn't heard this in 35 years. I think it brought back some hazy memories. He said he started a doob on a "neat" brass clip that he had and watched it move amongst the crowd the whole night, the clip that is. I think the doobs were continuously changed out. Miraculously, when he left, it was in his pocket.
Thanks again for posting this.

So Duane and/or Gregg were not in on this? |
