Comments:
Uncle>Big River are from either an Excellent Aud source, or they have a different, Matrix like mix.

d3t01 originall contained overlap with d2t07 - this was precisely eliminated using soundforge, so d2t7>d3t01 is seamless.

Important news from bt.etree.org!

Begining on March 17 2006, all torrents seeded at bt.etree must
include 1) checksum files (.md5, .ffp) that include a checksum for
every lossless audio file in the fileset, and 2) a copy of those
checksums pasted into the torrent description, so everyone can see
them without downloading the fileset.

If you seed a torrent without this information, it will be deleted.
We're telling you this now, so you'll know.

Of course, if there is a problem, we'll try to contact you and help
to fix it. If you don't have a valid e-mail address on your
db.etree.org account, please take a moment to add one. If we can't
contact you, we can't help you, and it be very frustrating for
everyone. Seeders who don't have valid e-mail addresses may find
their logins disabled.

This message will appear on all torrents seeded to bt.etree until
everyone has gotten the message. If your torrent has checksum files
and lists them in the description, thank you! If not, please take a
moment to edit the torrent description to include them. If you have
to add the checksum files from scratch, you'll have to pull this
torrent and start over. Sorry about that.

For help generating checksums, please visit
http://wiki.etree.org or
http://forums.etree.org/viewtopic.php?t=7025. If you have specific
questions, please post them at http://forums.etree.org and someone
will help you ASAP. Please do NOT e-mail us directly.

Thanks, and happy downloading.

I think the most noteworthy thing about these Oakland shows is their energy. Incredible energy, great interplay in the first sets, some very good Drums > Space.

Sorry these are taking so long to come visible -- for some reason, the tracker seems "offline" to my torrent client for hours at a time, which means it doesn't see me sitting their eagerly wanting to upload ;)
Marcust99 2008-02-11 18:51:50
Interesting. I always thought Garcia sounded very tired at this run . His voice is particularly hacked.
funkbeard 2008-02-11 20:34:53
used to have great audience tapes of this show. i haven't heard it, but the cowboy tunes may be from a straight aud source.

as for the music, there's a lot of great stuff here, but the clear peak, for me, is Truckin'>Smokestack. The entire band is so tight and organized into small groups simultaneously jamming with each other. Also the peak after Truckin' is spectacular.
SteveSw 2008-02-11 20:38:37
Yeah, Marcust99, I think the band as a whole is energized, and Garcia & Hornsby do some interesting back and forth in the first sets, but what keeps both shows from being excellent in my mind is that Garcia does seem "tired", especially in the second sets. There are glimmers of really interesting things, flashes of true brilliance, but it doesn't seem sustained.

thanks again for all the great uploads Steve

Hey Steve..Do you happen to have the Digital Audience of the 05-05-90 Carson,Ca. show that you can share?I'm hoping?
SteveSw 2008-02-12 03:32:27
I think you're going to have to share that digital audience of 05-05-90 with the rest of us some day, crazy4golf2003. It doesn't have a SHNID yet, so only the insiders have it.

crazy4golf2003 2008-02-12 10:38:50
I don't have the 05-05-90 Digi Aud.That's why I'm asking for it.I know people taped it with Digital equipment because I saw them.Since that day,I haven't been able to put my hands on it.The only Audience I have seen is the one on Live Archive with the Scheops. And I kind of remember the guy,but it's been almost 18 years now.

I'm sure he was there the 5th and taping though.I just can't find him or anyone else yet.Maybe someone will read this and come forward with the May 5,1990 show and we will all finally have a copy of a truly great show.Bombs were going off everywhere from Phil..And Brent,God bless his soul, was on fire the whole weekend.

That was not ment to be funny.Because of the heat on both days. That was a record weekend in the Los Angeles County area.106 and 105 respectively for each day.And as with every Dead show outdoors,we brought plenty of water to share.

If you know of or are in possession of the Digital Audience from Dominguez Hills,Carson,Ca. 05-05-90 Grateful Dead show, please share with us all.And thank you all for the great sharing you do for us all.Peace to all and have a great day.
SteveSw 2008-02-12 12:14:53
The source up on the Live Archive is a digital soundboard, it is not an audience with Schoeps.

http://www.archive.org/details/gd90-05-05.dsbd.wiley.11660.sbeok.shnf

All of the sources available for 05-05-90 are soundboards or fm tapes: there is no audience of any sort available:

http://db.etree.org/lookup_show.php?shows_key=1911

What that means is, the tapers who taped 90-05-05 haven't put their tapes into general circulation yet. I guess that's not surprising. Think back to the dozens of microphones you'd see in the taper's section, and then think of the number of people who patched in, and we seldom have more than a fistful of audience recordings for any one show. For this one, we don't have any recordings.
crazy4golf2003 2008-02-12 13:21:09
I hear ya Steve.I don't want to get in a name calling thing here so I will bit my tongue. But just think about all those mic's at this 05-05-1990 show and think about how far we as a society have come just since 1990.Now,are you thinking like I am that those people that do have those digi aud tapes out there have internet access and are laughing at you and me because we can not find out who they are?

I sure am.I posted over on Lossless to see if someone will come forward with those digital audience but I'm not holding my breath.

Why am I in need of these so bad?I will tell you.In my opinion, the bass does not come across on the soundboard as it does on the audience.Phil was dropping bombs all over the place and the boards just don't dew it justice.

Besides, there is nothing better than a well recorded audience tape. You get the feel of a show right there. All I can ever ask for are those great audience tapes like 09-24-83.Now that is a great audience tape and just to boot,a great show from start to finish.

crispy,crispy,crispy!!!!Hornsby is the fucking man!
padelimike 2008-02-13 02:00:32
Thanks SteveSw! Don't forget to consider the hundreds (or thousands) of copies of the aud recordings we each shared on cassettes and digital media with friends and acquaintances right after the shows. I'm the last person I know to get a computer, and only a handful of my masters have had cyberlife. Didn't get to this one or 5-5 myself, so thanks again for sharing your tunes!
redsox34 2008-02-13 16:42:51
This is a show I have been looking for ever since I walked out of the arena that night... We were right in front of the sound board, Healy had the quadrophonics working, particularly after drums and Jerry smiled more than I had ever seen him smile during a show. I was never one to walk out of every show saying "THAT WAS THE BEST SHOW EVER", but when I left that night, I was pretty sure it was something special. Huey Lewis blowing harp during Lovelight was a bit odd, but hey it worked. And yes, indeed Bruce was the man during this time period. Thank you very much for putting this up, now I can finally hear the outcome for my self.
