Important news from bt.etree.org!

Begining on March 17 2006, all torrents seeded at bt.etree must
include 1) checksum files (.md5, .ffp) that include a checksum for
every lossless audio file in the fileset, and 2) a copy of those
checksums pasted into the torrent description, so everyone can see
them without downloading the fileset.

If you seed a torrent without this information, it will be deleted.
We're telling you this now, so you'll know.

Of course, if there is a problem, we'll try to contact you and help
to fix it. If you don't have a valid e-mail address on your
db.etree.org account, please take a moment to add one. If we can't
contact you, we can't help you, and it be very frustrating for
everyone. Seeders who don't have valid e-mail addresses may find
their logins disabled.

This message will appear on all torrents seeded to bt.etree until
everyone has gotten the message. If your torrent has checksum files
and lists them in the description, thank you! If not, please take a
moment to edit the torrent description to include them. If you have
to add the checksum files from scratch, you'll have to pull this
torrent and start over. Sorry about that.

For help generating checksums, please visit
http://wiki.etree.org or
http://forums.etree.org/viewtopic.php?t=7025. If you have specific
questions, please post them at http://forums.etree.org and someone
will help you ASAP. Please do NOT e-mail us directly.

Thanks, and happy downloading.

While the 92-03-08 show was kind of flat -- solid and mostly unobjectionable but not very noteworthy, this show seems to me to have some pretty down moments but also some rather interesting ones, which makes it more compelling to me. What's going on here is that Bruce is really pushing at Jerry, you can hear it from the opening notes of Jack Straw, and often during the show he gets something back.

The second set is where things get interesting, driven mostly by Bobby and Bruce. Victim is good, Bruce's accordion is fun on Iko, and Corrina is kind of swirly. I have no idea what was going on here when Jerry walked away from the stage for a while after Corrina. If you ignore that there's a Dark Star in there, and just listen to the jamming for what it was, the jam out of Corrina through the Dark-Star-that-isn't-really-in-spirit-a-Dark-Star and then through Drums and Space and into the post-space jam is really pretty good.

And if you're the sort who cares, it's uncommon to say the least to get both a Dark Star and a Morning Dew in the same show. Too bad neither is noteworthy.

I was just gettin ready to up this per the request,I`ll help seed now also.
J

And FWIW,some of the best times of my life were spent at the good ol Crapitol Center.I saw every GD and JGB show there from `90>`95 and loved every single one of `em.
Tubeman 2008-04-16 11:49:15
Nevermind, for some reason I can`t get Azureus to recognize the file even though it`s the same.
However,I do have 2 MD5s in the file,one for each disc,I guess that`s it.

What I always do before I seed here is, I grab the text and checksum/fingerprint files from db.eTree, then I verify my music files against the checksums, then I create a torrent that just has the db.eTree files and the music. That way, other people can reseed if they have the music. So in this case, you can either point your torrent at this music (in which case you'll only need to download the fingerprint files) or go get the single fingerprint file from db.eTree before you download.

I went to see a whole lot of capitol center shows, too. I lived in the suburban DC area from 84-91, so I could just bop up there. It was always fun to see the Grateful Dead. But throughout many of those years, I'd count myself lucky if I really enjoyed the music of one of the four shows at a run.

The second set of this show is not a Jerry showcase, but it's interesting.
thejamgrasspimp 2008-04-16 17:15:50
Steve, with all due respect, I have to disagree with everything you said about this show. This show has epic moments but mostly the space and post space is what gets me going. During Space there is a gorgeous Shenandoah Lullaby that Jerry teases for several minutes bringing us down from the chaos of the Drums segment. This is such a rare treat and played so beautifully. The Lullaby leads in a rousing Miracle with the entire pumped up East Coast crowd signing along in unison. Bobby is fired up by the crowd and his screams show it. The Miracle then segues into a masterpiece of a Dew. Jerry is on...seriously friggin' on. Not a Jerry showcase, are you kidding me? The solo in Dew builds up perfectly. You know how some Dews lead into that climaxing solo and just stumble and fall apart leaving you with blue balls of the wors kind? This is not one of those Dews. This sucker rips and reaches a furious intensity before Jerry screams out the ending coda. This is a Dew for the ages and my favorite of the 90's. The crowd goes apeshit bonkers during the encore and goes into the NFA chant with a hundred different echoed rhythms of it coarsing over the crowd but who cares. Then the band comes back on stage and WTF....are you kidding me.....Satisfaction......and a smoking Satisfaction with everyone in the joint adding to the comotion. The Satisfaction is a rare rocker that this night is aided in energy by a fake ending ala Lovelite from RFK a few years back. This show is epic and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I promise you'll dig this show. And for all those 90's hater, ya'll don't know what you're missing. This is where it's at. Download It! Dig It!
uncle_duke77 2008-04-16 18:13:06
Thanks!
I guess I'll find out who's opinion matches mine :-)
I'd agree that the 1990's were not the band's, or at least Jerry's, best time, but I saw some good and fun shows during that half-decade. And the best of the period usually involved Hornsby. I'm not expecting a '74, or even an '82 (couple of very different years I favor), but I'm open... ;-)
cactus97 2008-04-16 18:52:02
epic moments? wow...

its ok to have an opinion and not like a show kids, it really is.

im gonna dl this and give it a listen. after 91 i found most gd to be blah but there's definitely some moments in there.
SteveSw 2008-04-16 18:52:14
jamgrasspimp, i'm the sort of person who thinks there are two kinds of people, the kind who think there are two kinds of people and the kind who do not.

I'm the sort of person who thinks there are two kinds of people, the kind who pick their two kinds of people up off the floor when they are done with them, and the kind of keep believing there are two kinds of people after they're done.

I am the first sort of person, in both cases.

So, one thing I'm learning from other people's impressions of 80s and 90s Dead is, there are two kinds of people who went to saw those shows: people who were there for the jamming, and people who were there for the energy. I think your impression of the second half of the second set is different from mine because you and I are different sorts of people.

I did say that I liked this show best from the jam between corrina and dark star through the jam coming out of space. And I do.

I can certainly hear the energy in the second half of the second set. I'm with you, the band REALLY ROCKS in there. I must admit that the Morning Dew is way too fast for my taste, energetic but not languidly/beautifully jammed. It sounds like you like the rocking energy in Miracle and Morning Dew, and that's cool. But that's the difference in our tastes I guess.

As my taste is just one taste among many, and I'm well aware of this other energy-oriented taste amongst many of you, you should note that if you are the sort of person who can resonate with the potential joy of seeing an excellent Miracle and a rockin' Satisfaction encore (even if the vocals were largely lost on account of microphone problems), then you might enjoy this more than I did, and you might want to take jamgrasspimp's suggestion to download it.

The show is certainly worth a listen.

Thanks for the post, jamgrasspimp: I like it when various opinions about the music come up in the threads. I am surely not the universal judge of the Dead.
devolvershemp72 2008-04-16 19:21:49
The Cap Centre security sucked but alot of good shows in the 90's. Saw three nights in spring of '91 and made it to high school the next day. Thanks for posting!
ljg 2008-04-16 19:45:51
I confess I'm enjoying reading these threads as much for the comments as for the music therein.

I appreciate the reflections from all on these shows... and I'll give my 2-bits when my time comes. Personal recollections of show always add a little something extra.

Regardless of the year... I sure miss that feeling of having a show to look forward too. I really do.
JobyBishop 2008-04-16 21:02:53
Music? Energy? Dude, I went for the acid and the hippiechicks! So hopefully there's THREE kinds of people or I'll end up feeling inadequate... In all seriousness, I've really appreciated and valued, and indeed trusted, your commentaries during this monumental Hornsby run Steve -- I thought they were very thoughtful and reflected sensitive re-listenings of this enormous amount of material, and were put forth (daily, all should recall) in a way that all of us who were perhaps unfamiliar but certainly interested could understand. I feel like you went out on a limb doing so too, and respect and really appreciate your diligence and endurance in this rewarding effort.
thejamgrasspimp 2008-04-16 22:14:51
Right on Steve. I appreciate you taking the commentary in stride. We all have different takes on this stuff and that's the fun of it. I must say that I've had a very personal attachment to this show for years and that's mostly due to the audience recording but the board is fantastic as well. The Satisfaction doesn't quite translate as well on the board but it's still a smoking fake ending. It winds down and just when you think the song is ending Jerry picks it back up and launches a sizzling solo to bring it to the final closure. Boy, those Cap Centre shows sure were blessed with some monumental encores through the years, Ripple electric, Lucy in the Sky breakout and some others I'm forgetting. Thanks for sharing buddy! I miss the boys something fierce.

>> Cap Centre shows sure were blessed with some monumental encores through the years

They must've been trying to make up for the time in August '80 (81?) when the naked guy got past security and managed to get on stage, unplugging Jerry's guitar in the confusion. Broken down Brokedown.
SteveSw 2008-04-17 01:04:29
For these two Cap Center shows, nobody has got around to sharing the AUD. Do you know who recorded it? Because that would be a good step on the way to figuring out how to get it out to everybody else, to ask the taper....
Gearyr2007 2008-04-17 01:31:29
I second JobyBishops comments. I've really enjoyed the differing viewpoints of these threads as well as the chance to grab more than a few of them. Your labor of love is very much appreciated. DUDE!!
thejamgrasspimp 2008-04-17 07:17:34
I have what I think is an awesome audience recording of this but I have no idea who recorded it. I've had it from back in the tape days and I transferred it to cdr. It's transferred from cassette tape not dat and lots of folks are picky about that so I have never upped it or anything. If anyone wants a copy of the audience feel free to B & P me for it. It's the perfect kind of audience tape to listen to on headphones. It really puts you there. I also have a dvd of this with soundboard mixed of the second set only. Email me at the thejamgrasspimp@yahoo.com if interested in any of these.
trailmix 2008-04-21 01:25:26
jamgr asspimp- why not create checksums and up it here?
I'm with you on this 2nd set and I've been waiting for an aud to surface 4 forever.
Both sbd copies of this have a cass gen anyway
and they don't do the show justice
