| Description | Grateful Dead + Allman Bros - 2-day weekend sizzler - every GD note!
RFK Stadium
Washington, DC
June 09, 1973
notes:
a) The 6/9 SBD Sug Mag was missing the final 2:30 chorus at the end of the show. I patched this w/my AUD.
b) Nice webpage I built to honor this amazing weekend
http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=196369
c) All my AUD tape transfers and remastering have ZERO EQ applied - the EQ is always set FLAT - no boost, no cut. The only remastering done here is patching a few tunes, cutting everything up, and organizing the filesets, period. The SBD patches were normalized to match the AUD levels. Concert Hall echo/delay effects are applied to SBD patches to rival the AUD sound model - just for the heck of it.
d) My cassette tapes are the actual Masters. These cassettes easily had several thousand playback passes on them. Several cassette housings had failed, and the cassette tape reels were transferred into surrogate housings. There was some tape damage, but not too bad given 35 years old. Cassettes were recorded on a Sony TC-2850SD, and played back on a Nakamichi 550. Given all the wear and tear, the incredible ear-candy sound is "all there." Enjoy these priceless gems.

This AUD recording epitomizes the very best of the Grateful Dead "live sound" for the time. The Wall of Sound is nailed by the sound crew and the Dead for this show. Set within an outdoor Stadium, this close-up infield FOB spatially captures sound from the two Aux PA towers on the infield, behind the taper. The sound delay from the Wall of Sound to the Aux PA towers adds a touch of ear candy as it rolls around the stadium. This was by far the best sound fidelity experience I ever heard come out of a PA System, period. It was a sensational orgy of sound. It all started Saturday. Don't overlook this gem. -- Monte

Audio Patches:
1) At the beginning of soundboard, 23.658 seconds were missing from the SBD source and was filled in with audio from the AUD1 source. This includes the cymbal leadin to Morning Dew.
2) Also between Morning Dew and Beat It On Down The Line, 1 minute and 26.758 seconds were missing from the SBD source and was filled in with audio from the AUD1 source. This includes almost the 1st minute of BIODTL.
3) At the beginning of set 2, 16.685 seconds were missing from the SBD source and was filled in with audio from the AUD2 source.
4) 12 minutes into He's Gone, 48.325 seconds were missing from the SBD source and was filled in with audio from the AUD1 source.
5) At the beginning of set 3, 47.419 seconds were missing from the SBD source and was filled in with audio from the AUD1 source.
6) 1 minutes into Drums, 10.014 seconds were missing from the SBD source and was filled in with audio from the AUD1 source.
7) 4 minutes into Drums, 17.652 seconds were missing from the SBD source and was filled in with audio from the AUD1 source.
8) Concerning speed correction - I released my matrix of this show where I had used the soundboard as the reference mainly because it had 20 less times where the tape was stopped and then restarted. The actual difference was approximately .5% which is fairly small all things considered but still noticeable. A person who's opinion I respect greatly sent me a PM stating:
"I haven't listened to your matrix, but I think CM's soundboard of this runs 0.5-0.7% fast, so maybe the AUDs were actually correct."
After getting this, I re-listened to the sbd and had to agreed. So, I went back and reversed all the times so basically synced this sbd to the audience. Thanks to R.B. for his help in the matter. As most time corrections are very subjective, I really appreciate any and all help I get in these matters.

Important news from bt.etree.org!
Begining on March 17 2006, all torrents seeded at bt.etree must
include 1) checksum files (.md5, .ffp) that include a checksum for
every lossless audio file in the fileset, and 2) a copy of those
checksums pasted into the torrent description, so everyone can see
them without downloading the fileset.
If you seed a torrent without this information, it will be deleted.
We're telling you this now, so you'll know.
Of course, if there is a problem, we'll try to contact you and help
to fix it. If you don't have a valid e-mail address on your
db.etree.org account, please take a moment to add one. If we can't
contact you, we can't help you, and it be very frustrating for
everyone. Seeders who don't have valid e-mail addresses may find
their logins disabled.
This message will appear on all torrents seeded to bt.etree until
everyone has gotten the message. If your torrent has checksum files
and lists them in the description, thank you! If not, please take a
moment to edit the torrent description to include them. If you have
to add the checksum files from scratch, you'll have to pull this
torrent and start over. Sorry about that.
For help generating checksums, please visit
http://wiki.etree.org or
http://forums.etree.org/viewtopic.php?t=7025. If you have specific
questions, please post them at http://forums.etree.org and someone
will help you ASAP. Please do NOT e-mail us directly.
Thanks, and happy downloading. |

| The 'work' done on this one is indeed a mastery of sound by the Grateful Dead Family - from jerr, bob, phil, keith and bill playing -- to the Sound Crew and the Road Crew getting them plugged in and sounding perfect for this weekend. They nailed it here - all weekend. These tapes are a miracle I captured by these Boys, not to mention giving credit to the audio design engineers and Alembic. I've never heard anything close to what I heard this weekend. Somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 of us music-lovers were at these 2 shows. The famous Sunday 8-hour show includes the jam at the end w/ Dickey Betts and Butch Trucks from the Allman Bros. The Saturday show has mistakenly been underated and/or overlooked. My AUD.fob tapes were just published recently. |

| Marvellous. Haven't visited these shows in ages, and these are fantastic recordings of the band in a fine groove. I'm a Limey by the way - but my partner is a Northern Kiwi :-) |
