Anyone that doesn't know this, get it now and hold on tight! The recording is amazing and the show is even better. I've read much talk around here about the best Ghost being IT or Radio City and others. Don't get me wrong, they are great, but make no mistake that this is THE Best Ghost period. Before it even ended my jaw was sore from hanging in disbelief. Fresh off the Europe tour where it debuted (to the public), and came a long way in 3 weeks and was very experimental, by VA beach they had it absolutely dialed, the energy was amazing. Then, somehow they managed to top it and drop the BOMB that we now as the Atlanta Ghost! We knew at this point that we were in for a summer filled with unforgetable, dirty cow funk Ghosts for the ages. Call me greedy, but I'd go on this tour every summer for the rest of my life if I could.

Thank you. I've been waiting for this show. This is THE Ghost-

this ghost exists in sbd format, mp3 only iirc. Great show overall, set 2 certainly has some stellar moments, oh and dan sux :-p

yeah I was at this one too....really tremendous evening. My last east coast show. My last ones were in Texas before the hiatus. (the Austin > Houston run in 99 I think)

Anyway....thanks alot for this! Haven't heard it since it was played. I don't grab too many any more, but this one is well worth the band-width.

I too was lucky enough to have witnessed this one live. Hands down one of their "best ever" shows. The atmosphere at the show was incredible. During most of the first set, the clouds were red and churning in the sky, especially during "melt".

This "Ghost" takes the cake. Nothing showcases their acid funk of the era better than this. Once they get going...there is no stopping the churning funk machine. The "YEM" is also top shelf..with the crazy jam at the end. This show is easily in the 10 ten best ever played.

Now my question is this: Where the hell is the livephish SBD/video of this show???? In fact...where are any summer 97's??? but especially this one?????
nate frawg 2008-06-13 21:39:44
The Ghost is great, very fast though.

The YEM is the highlight, immediately followed by The Best Version of Rocky Mountain Way Ever, by Phish or otherwise.

I don't even like the Joe Walsh version very much, something about the way Trey says "hiiiigheeerr" just grabs me. I very much wish they played it more than once. And if they did, please let me know

one and only time "rocky mountain way": lakewood 97!

Thanks as always to the tapers, transferrers, and seeders. I'm glad to see this show getting the praise it deserves, but so far no comments have mentioned the terrific first set!

Rightfully overshadowed by the epic 2nd, the 1st nevertheless boasts a raging Julius opener, followed by a fine batch of newish tunes. Throw in familiar favorites like NICU and Ginseng, and cap it all off with a smoking Split Open - Billy Breathes - Possum trio, and you end up with my favorite first set of those I witnessed.
Between sets a bit of Primus' "Tales from the Punchbowl" played on the PA, and then...

Lakewood was never so amped, before or since. "Ring My Bell", no doubt.

Best Ghost ever.

After my rambling first comment I decided to blast this show start to finish in my backyard last night. First set is so much fun - the perfct soundtrack to BBQ on a perfect Jersey summer evening, ending with the sun setting during Possum while My 2 & 4 yr old boys and I danced/ran around in the yard catching lightening bugs.

JULIUS smokes!
petemargowskins 2008-06-14 16:21:06
i suppose enough has already been said, but i have to chime in to say this is my favorite "yem" ever...it just chokes me up to imagine what it must've been like for the people in attendance to witness that firsthand. i hope something akin to that is still possible some day.
tigolebitties 2008-06-14 19:01:06
i can vouch for the seeing the live YEM....it was out of control!
when they got to the part that usually had the vocal jam...the entire place exploded when they decided to play the russian mafia jam. It was totally unexpected and random. Also at this point in the show...there was lightning everywhere, which added to the tripped out atmosphere. This wasn't your typical YEM...it was played with a spark of electricity and boldness that made it over the top.

The julius opener was also spectacular, with many peaks and valleys before they eventually got to this really cool, quiet part with trey using that really cool vibrato effect. I remember the opening solo was like a laser beam being broadcast over the crowd and all the way up the lawn.

Also, listen for the rocky mountain way teases in chalkdust!
kylekreischer 2008-06-15 01:56:16
the melt is soooo good....trey drops the wah in a way like never before...and never after.
ytowndan 2008-06-15 03:21:45
Not much left to point out. Great show, great ghost and great YEM. But this dirt SMOKES!

I have over 600 shows from 1993-2004, & it still amazes me that shows like this one actually happened. Listening to the tapes this band at times to me seems superhuman. love this show
Tiger2 2008-06-16 12:53:41

Probably a little late, but this show fits nicely on to two 80 minute discs, and there is no reason to put it on three. Hot show, fo sho.
