LINEAGE: Rode NT3 Hypercardioids (FOB/DFC, 40 ft. from Stage @ 8.5 ft. & Spread 3 ft.) > Custom Mic Cables > Edirol R-09 (Line-In @ 24 Bit/48kHz) > USB > Soundforge 8.0 (Downsampling to 16/44.1, Beginning & End Fades, Tracking) > FLAC
RECORDING NOTES: The venue is basically a large mobile stage in the middle of a big open field. The speaker stacks were JBL's. Two hanging stacks on either side of the stage, spread 40 ft., delivered the mids & highs. Two large sub stacks sitting on either side of the stage below the hanging stacks pumped out the lows. The mics were spread 3 ft. apart & aimed at the hanging stacks. Mic cables are custom made Mogami cables with Neutrik Gold connectors. I used internal 9v battery power for the NT3's, so no phantom power was required for the mics. The NT3's signal is so hot that no mic preamp was necessary, thus the use of the line-in input on the R-09. I split the discs at a quiet part in-between songs, so there is no fade out at the end of Disc 1, or fade in at the start of Disc 2. All the tracks can be assembled together seamlessly onto longer media such as an Audio DVD or a 90 minute CD-R with overburn. Special thanks to Gina, BT's Tour Manager, who gave me permission to record even though CD's of that nights show were being sold to concert goers. | Thanks for the share! Went to Little Feat in Alexandria and was hoping to make it out in time for BT's set but the timing logistics nixed that (Feat went a little past 7pm). It'll be sweet to surprise some coworkers who went and hear what I missed, thanks for taping~ |

Yup, that's exactly what they are. Better for semi-long distances while retaining some of the side ambience of cardioids. |
