AUD
Taper: Chuck
* Source Neumann mics (Vintage 1957, tube electronics) >
MAC > CDR> EAC (Secure mode) > SHN
* This does not appear that it is from a cassette source.
If so, then it was the most time accurate tape deck in
the entire world. My guess is it was recorded onto DAT.
Thanks to the Lossless Legs Community (www.shnflac.net)
for getting me these 2 spectacular sources. Both of these
recordings are top notch. The AUD source is perhaps one
of the best AUDs I've heard from the Warfield. I am very
pleased with the results of this project. The 2 recording
mixed very well. Jerry's notes literally linger in the
air for what seems an eternity. The 5.1 version and the
SBD+AUD matrix mix leaves you standing front row at the bar
rail. Complete with Jerry's guitar floating by as hoot's
and cat calls add to the experience. Jerry's tone is very
nice and the AUD did a great job at capturing how things
sounded that night in SF.
---------------------------------------------------------
Tech Notes
FLAC/SHNs were decoded to wave. Wavmerge was used to reassemble
the tracks back to 1 long wave. CEP2.0 was used to align &
synch both of the sources. SF8.0 was used to reduce and
fix some of the snaps/pops usuing the pencil tool. CEP2.0
used to adjust the volume for the SBD & AUD and perform the
multitrack mixdown to stereo. This is a 50% SBD, 50% AUD mix.
- Mixed by dan@am-dig.com
- FLAC conversion done 15-AUG-2006
- Artwork at 300dpi by dan@am-dig.com
- For best results print at the highest resolution onto glossy
photo paper. Design for use in a clear single jewel case.
---------------------------------------------------------
Notes
The SBD had somewhat low levels with the exception of the
spiking drums. I preformed some hard limiting to try and
contain things a bit better. +3db with a max amplitude of
-.1db.
The SBD had several pops and clicks. Especially noticeable
during "My Sisters and Brothers" but they were located
throughout. using zoom an pencil tool I was able to redraw
and remove 30 or 40 of these pops without disturbing the
music.

I was listening to this last night on my headphones and was just blown away by the sound quality. This includes what must be one of the very best of the best AUD recordings I ever heard. Coupled of course with a pristine digital SBD.
OK, it is an incomplete SBD recording but it is all we have. And yes, this is not Jerry in his prime but it is JGB in 1993. Still, put this on, crank it up and I promise your jaw with drop with the amazing clarity as Garcia's notes literally hand in the air for a long moment before slowly fading off.
Jerry guitar reminds me of one of those "weeping willow" style fireworks that light up the sky and slowly trickle away.
I would also point to this as a simple designed but still one of my favorite pieces of art created.

Thanks this looks great. I'm all over it from the description given.
I only saw JGB twice - fall east coast tours in 91 & 93 and I loved both shows. All recordings i've heard from this time period are good shows.
I really think his playing with the JGB in the 90s is better than with the GD. I'm not one who disses 90s dead shows either because that is when I saw the majority of my shows, but there is something about his playing with the JGB in this period that makes me think he was having more fun and playing looser than with the gd.
Thanks again. |

| Chuck was definitely recording on DAT in 1993, in fact I believe he got every Warfield show, from the drink rail no less, from 1992 onwards. I was there most of those nights as well. I agree with a previous comment that Jerry always seemed to have an extra bounce in his step, so to speak, with the JGB in the 90's. FYI I also have 2 nights of this run (2/26 and 2/27) from a different Neumann source, KM140's from about 6 feet behind Chuck. Those are also sweet audience recordings. Seeing Jerry at the Warfield was like going to church back then. I think I saw god more than once! ;-) |

towards the end of times the GD was where Jerry went to work. The JGB was where Jerry went to play!

Thanks for this, It sounds amazing.
One thing though, after burning this to cd and putting it into my itunes for loading onto my ipod, the data for the show comes up as disc 1 of JGB 04-06-1993, It is definatly the 02-26-1993 show though. Anyone know why this would happen? |

No Baldwin. He would be the drummer to replace Kemper in early 1994.
Per The Jerry Site:
* Jerry Garcia - guitar, vocals
* John Kahn - bass
* Melvin Seals - keyboards
* David Kemper - drums (2-21-1986 to 11-19-1993)
* Donny Baldwin - drums (2-4-1994 to 4-23-1995)
* Jaclyn LaBranch - backing vocals
* Gloria Jones - backing vocals |
