-- THE SHACK PROJECT --
This is an effort to seed all existing MMW shows, and yes, preserving the original SHN/FLAC filesets. The seeding will proceed chronologically for the most part, with exceptions as we feel the vibe to seed other gigs from other times.
Thanks to MMW for allowing their music to be recorded....really, thank you.
Huge thanks goes out to the tapers, without whom this wouldn't be possible...and those that have helped get the tunes to our ears.
And thanks to the other 4 guys I've dragged into this and who seem committed to the cause: Louie, Mike Tom & Todd....we're all listening to these shows and hopefully circulating the best versions.
All shows listed here in SHN/FLAC will be seeded:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmw
These shows will be seeded as well, either by me or by one of a few other kind souls:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmwaccess
Shows listed here circulate in some manner. We are looking for as close to the original source as we can get so if you can help out with any of the following, we'd all appreciate it:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmwneeds (this list is in the process of being compiled...maybe forever?)
I've started a thread over here for us to be able to discuss this project:

Okay, we're kicking off 1998 - one of my favorite years for MMW. Some really exploratory and spacey shit starts to take place this year.
I'll be seeding the next night possibly tomorrow I would think. |

Ha! I've heard you say "One of my favorite years for MMW"about 10 different times!
I've said it about 15 different times myself. I always mention it during 2004, 2000, 1999 ETC! Just can't nail it down.
That's when you know they're something special!
I love these cats to death just like mike, dug, and tom.
Thanks for the post mike!

You guys are the MMW equivalent to Charlie Miller on the GD side of things......always needing more hard drive space!
And I thank you for it. |

| Yeah...the CMillers of MMW! Also, there's that guy "TheBus," whose efforts only encourage purchases of external hard drives...which definitely holds true for the Shack Project. Thanks guys! |

'98 was my first year catching the band live, after collecting some tapes for a couple of years...it blew me away and was unlike any of the tapes I had, which were all '95 + '96 gigs so I was missing any introduction to Combustication tunes before catching them live in the Spring -- which what the setlists were almost entirely made up of in the two shows I saw...thought it was a different band almost!
And, just because I'm a setlist freak, here's a *slightly* updated/adjusted setlist/tracking which I've added to the db.etree source entry:
Disc 1
Set I
1. Intro to > Start/Stop
2. Sugar Craft >
3. Just Like I Pictured It
4. Coconut Boogaloo
5. Hip Chops
6. Improv > Combustication [@4:18] >
7. Improv > Bubblehouse [@1:39]
Set II
8. Lifeblood >
9. Is There Anybody Here That Love My Jesus
Disc 2
1. Latin Shuffle > Bass Solo [@10:41]
2. Everyday People
3. Dracula >
4. Church Of Logic >
5. No Ke Ano Ahiahi
6. Chinoiserie
7. Night Marchers
8. E: Chubb Sub

The entire year!
Seriously though, off the top of my head I'd say these:
4/18/98
4/24/98 (Set II is one of my top 5 favourite sets -- the flow and pulse of the entire set is kickin'!)
4/25/98
5/28+29/98 (we have nice SBDs of these)
6/16/98
Oct-Dec '98 (HA! That's a slew of shows in there, but I just really dig the Fall tour!, but to narrow it down...)
10/9/98
11/15/98
12/12/98
...but really, the entire year is great, I think...perhaps it's because this was the year I really got into the band more so after having seen them live, but I just really dig some of the Improvs (they really start milking the opening Improv sections), the HUGE versions of Africa in the Spring, and just the flow to a number of the gigs...great year for sure, but as Todd said above, we say that a lot!

In addition to what duggy said, 4.18.98 is the most tripped out, whacked out , f'd up MMW show I may have ever heard.
There is some really inspired experimental stuff going on in that show.
Keep an eye out for when we torrent that one. |

Thanks! I'm not sure if I've heard this one before.
04/18/98 is one mofu of a show. My Mom even said, "Are we in the Twilight Zone?" or something to that effect when I played parts of it for her. You'd expect DJ Logic to keep things fairly tight, but he helps pull it apart even further. Even the "Bubblehouse" is good! |
