Dead To The Core Project
Noteworthy Jam Sandwiches (A Collection)
This is a collection of noteworthy jam sandwiches played by the
Grateful Dead. A jam sandwich is when the band starts a song, flows
off and plays another song, then comes back and finishes up with the
first song. The collection is very closely based on a list put
together by Eric Wybenga and published in his book _Dead To The Core:
An Almanac of the Grateful Dead_. Five of Eric's eleven selections
have been released commercially. We had AUDs available for two of them
(10/9/76 and 10/16/89). For the other three, I found replacements that
had similar sandwiches and were played close to the same time: I
swapped 11/7/69 for Eric's 11/8/69, 11/17/73 for Eric's 11/10/73, and
5/28/77 for Eric's 5/19/77.
The track names are self-explanatory: they list the date of the
performance, the SHNID of the source, and shortened names of the songs
included in the track. These jam sandwiches tended to be "complete"
jams, so I've included them more or less as they appear in the
original source, with occasional dead air cut from the beginning or
the end of the songs, and fades added where transitions are too
hars. I joined jams with "shntool join", and then I retracked and
added simple fades using Wavelab. I fixed up the resulting tracks
using shntool, and then I compressed the files using "flac --best". I
used shntool version 3.0.2, flac version 1.1.3, and Wavelab version 6.

Just to say - many thanks for these. They are not only a delight in themselves, but they have also led me back to shows I haven't heard in a long time, and to shows I have never heard. So it's a neat way to put things on shuffle :-)

| Hey guys, at a certain point about a year ago, I updated winamp and have since had problems playing shns on the computer. Anyone have the same problem, and/or solutions? |

| I don't think that winamp 3 will play shns; make sure you have either 2 or 5 (there is no 4). Other than that, you might need to reinstall the shnamp plug in. |

Any chance someone might do a couple with ONLY music? I find myself forwarding through the 3 or 4 verses to get to the real meat.There was a phish comp a while back like that. It made me want to hear a dead version.

| This Looks great along with DttC017...been downloading for 7 days now...very slow effort 633MB out of 3.25GB...goin' to Maui in two weeks it'll be close...Can we get another couple seeders to step up and help a DH in need? |
