Am I crazy, or does it sound like the SBD part of this matrix goes more AUD at the peak of the "Shakedown" jam? Kinda sounds like the SBD was intentionally mixed down a bit to emphasize the AUD portion during the peak of this particular jam.
I'm not trying to be an asshole and complain or nitpick here (though it probably sounds like I am), but it just really threw me off for a moment. Unless there was some kind of funkiness happening with the SBD at this point (I dunno, don't have the Miller SBD), kind of seems like a somewhat obtrusive and subjective incongruity on part of the mixer (I know that sounds bad, but I really am grateful for these matrix sources, and thoroughly enjoy them; that part of "Shakedown" just sounded weird to my ears because the matrix already sounded so good up to that point).
Anyway, I'll shut up now. Just an observation. |

airyckq,
Thanks for your very observant listening skills and feedback! It lets me know people really are listening to the subtle details in this stuff - and why I take great care in making things consistent, as you say.
To answer your question, I did not in any way adjust the audio levels around the point you are referring to (11:35?). However, I do know what you are talking about in that the AUD suddenly seems more apparent during the Shakedown peak. The "problem" you are referring to is an issue in the SBD itself at that moment. To my ears, in listening to the SBD alone, the left channel seems to get lower at that part, and the sound distribution in the channels shifts. Since the left channel gets lower, you will naturally hear more AUD shine through. I noticed this myself when I was matrixing. Yet because I DO NOT want to adjust audio levels on a mere whim when things get weird like that, I simply stay the course and hope the SBD and/or AUD issues will work themselves out naturally. I opt to keep the recordings the way they were originally mixed and don't try to fix them on that level. So, the culprit here may indeed be the sonic wizard Dan Healy. ;)
Also, I have noticed that shifts in the channels of the SBD can happen frequently, so there may be other places in this or other matrices where these tonal shifts occur (it seems like in every other matrix something like this happens).
Thanks again for your input, as it gives me an opportunity to talk about issues that others may have been concerned about - and maybe even clear up "other" concerns in the process.
peace

| I love listening to your matrixes man, so thank you first of all for the love you put into your work, and also for the clarification on this observation. I thought it most probably was a problem with the recordings, but was just "concerned" (in my own ridiculous obsessive way; I love this music to a fault, practically). I look forward to all your future seeds! They've really rocked my world so far. :) |

Oh my stars and garters, it's Christmas in October.
One of my all-time favorite shows, and the one that got me on the bus. I've been listening to the hissy tape version (which I honestly love) for years, but just found Charlie Miller's upgrade a few months back, and now I see we have a Matrix!
Thank you, thank you, thank you |
