Description"Blues for the World"
A Grateful Dead mix by Rowjimmy
2008-09-01

Daydreaming at work as a boorish meeting wore on, I played myself a mental set of some Grateful Dead.
What I heard (in my head) sounded pretty cool and I thought to recreate it. I took some notes during
the meeting about this possible mix and, immediately afterwards, set to work compiling the material.

Here's a scan of the notes I made during the meeting:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/rowjimmy/SL1hFeuBMYI/AAAAAAAABnU/r38K8Ej15_M/s800/b4tw_mixnotes.png

You'll notice that I didn't exactly re-create the entire thing but the groundwork was there.
Now, you can hear the result.

*This Clip contains the full contents of Seastones from 1974-06-28, folded, inverted and otherwise manipulated into a single, thunderous, percussive note (with a bit of a roaring tail...)

Additional notes:

Thanks to the GDThread @ week4paug.net for their input/seeds/etc...

Some post-processing was applied to individual clips and the mix as a whole to 'tweak' various sonic properties.
If you seek out the specific shows utilized here, they may not sound the same... (which is why I'm not listing db.etree shnids.)

Enjoy.

zebweber 2008-09-26 00:17:07
a 3-second 'plunderphonic style' implosion of Seastones?

this I gotta hear!

thanks -Zeb

I guess I'll have to hear it to understand the overlapping track timings - hmmmmm....

Somehow my meetings at work often also ends up with me working on projects and lists like this :-)

Looks really nice; looking forward to hear it.

Very cool - listening right now. I love the Greyfold/ plunderphonics Dark Stars and to get similar new material is quite a treat. I hope you find the interest and the time to do more of these.

I used make the same sort of dead lists when I worked in Dilbert/ cubicle/ meetings land but now that I'm back in the classroom the kidz won't permit such and generally they are a pleasurable endeavor away from GD ocd. :-)

Thanks for including the link to a scan of your note -- that alone would make me interested in hearing this (especially if I found it on a conference table). I've always been fasciated by both the plunderphonics approach and by the inherent creativity of making one's own mix tapes, and here the two are combined. Thanks for following the muse and offering this for others to enjoy, and long may your creative juices flow... even to the detriment of that meeting you were supposed to be involved in.

Thanks.

It was a stupid meeting.

Hope you guys like what you hear.

I have only started listening to this, but whatever you did to enhance the sound of 'Till the Morning Comes from the 10-04-70 show is amazing! - unless I have not heard a better source. I have the FM version. I would love to hear the whole 10-04-70 sound like that. Any remastering intentions? Also, these transitions are pretty stealth. More cool listening ahead...
hseamons 2008-09-26 15:12:31
This kind of reminds me what the Dead were doing with the Anthem album, which makes me think more of these mixes would be a nice way to explore sounds and shows.

I was listening to the 5-15-70 portion about 5 minutes in when I read the most recent comment by Edshread, "this is some seriously weird shit"

I LOVE IT!

thanks for sharing your twisted musical vision, and for having the ability to pull it off :)
