Hold Steady fans over at the message board:
I see some are confused by my request that this not be converted to MP3. What I mean is please don't convert the .wav files and then post on Internet (I've seen at least one other show of mine out there) so people can download.
Obviously you can do whatever you want, i.e., put it on an iPod, with the file for your personal use. The problem with spreading mp3 is they offer inferior sound quality. As you all know, a live show is not pristine to begin with. I normally don't add this caveat to shows I record but I've seen Hold Steady mp3s all over the place.

Thanks for posting this, I love hearing the shows that I can't get to. I am the one who posts THS shows on http://holdsteady.blogspot.com/ so I do convert the FLAC files to MP3's when the taper does not request otherwise.
I convert them because A. I choose the highest quality MP3 available, to minimize quality loss,
B. FLAC files are so large to upload it can take a long time and even longer to download and not everyone uses bittorent. |

| I suggest you get the band to agree to be on the Live Music Archive. That way audio can be archived and streamed. People can get mp3 but also the full audio version. |
