Sorry for the delay as Steve's internet was down last night after I had this puppy ready to go at 2:30 am! Trying from the local Caribou Cafe, hopefully it will go.
Here is last night's Mule show from the Pantages. We were excited for round II after a very solid show on Friday night. The plan was to hopefully secure the same area to record from. I spoke to Joe as I was getting a ticket from his group of Mulers. I met him over at the Rock Bottom and bought my ducat from a new friend, Mary. The ticket was up close in Row H, but off to the right. I went back to the same seat as Friday night with the theory of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I recorded Back Door Slam with no problem. It did start filling in and as I was clamping onto Guy, Amanda said I have a ticket in Row F. I looked at the ticket and saw it was for the seat I had my stand set up in! I guess with just over a thousand seats, my chances were one in a thousand, and here I was right where I needed to be! I swapped my ticket with her as I knew anything more than 2 rows from the stage would be too far for her to hang!
he music was on, and Bad Little Doggie led into a How Many More Years sandwich with some Higher Ground in the middle. I was treated to hearing an awesome Temporary Saint. My first Scomule after 5 shows, was split with a short Dance to the Music! Next Sammy up for grabs was the Hunger Strike>Dear Mr. Fantasy>Hunger Strike, that segued into Take Me To The River with Davy Knowles lending his guitar to! Yeah, another great set!
The second set offered a few surprises as well. The number 3 song slot was Helter Skelter, and the place went bonkers! After a short jam that had Jorgen throwing some Iron Maiden/Sabbath sounding bass, they launched into Have a Cigar with Matt spotlighting on vocals! The set closed with a monster Blindman (Frank G wold have been in his glory). After the set started, I texted Matt D, the killer soundman of the Drive By Truckers. We spoke earlier in the day as they were finishing early and I invited him to come over. I sent him the message that Mule was on their 2nd song and come on over and look for my mic stand. He texted back, "You just Wait". Hmmmm... Just before the encore, I watched the stage crew set up an extra mic, and that is when his text hit home! I told guy we may be seeing Patterson. Voila, Warren intros him and they launch into a Cortez! I was truly excited as all hell.
