I just received a bunch of tapes in a trade, and there is one that caught my attention right away. Pigpen 1964 recordings. I have not transferred it yet, but I will surely check it against the database once I am able to listen to it.
Thanks for this,

| upon reviewing the link.. it appears to be one of those that 'circulate in all sorts of fragments and orderings'. It is labeled '1-1-64 Pigpen at Home - Demos'. |

| thanks for this...I had the last three tracks as filler on a first set from the Silver Bowl in '94. They were the only reason I ever listened to that tape. |

| Many of the assigned dates are just guesses. Probably incorrect. I don't think Pigpen was in the state of health to record music in 1973. Therefore those so-called March 1973 recordings are probably of an earlier vintage. |

great stuff. This should serve some of the younger listeners well in that it illustrates that in the early years the GD were a band with serious blues roots influence thanks to Pigpens love of American folk & blues. Blended with the other members musical interest and influences they grew into the unique blend of musical elements that helped to make them stand out from the other Bay Area 60's bands.
The confusion about the dates should not stop anyone from a good listen. Thanks |
