Never heard GD do Goodnight Irene, only JGB. Thanks for this, looking forward to it!
desdave 2008-12-03 23:32:54
Charlie, you hear it all the time, but you are the MAN!!!

Jesus, it has been a dream come true since a week or so before Thanksgiving... first that epic Greek 84 run, now NYE 83!!!

What could possibly be next? A killer upgrade to 6/13/87? A digital copy of 6/26/94? Anze Kopitar suiting up in the Winged Wheel? I mean, pinch me here!

7/4/90 ever been posted?
Nobody loves you more Mr. Charlie!

This show looks great on paper and I know with the CM stamp it's gonna sound great too? But how's the playin and the quality of the performance? how's jerry's voice sound? I know that by this time it was hit or miss. Any night of this run a standout?
Thanks.

This was my first full run of shows, so I have a weak-spot.... but

I've always enjoyed listening to these shows even after seeing many more. My highlights are: the Scarlet-Fire from 12/27 - a long, smoky, classic '83 S.F., the Stranger and the post-drums from 12/28, especially the Other One, and the zippy Estimated-Eyes and NFA from NYE.
liranfa 2008-12-05 20:42:10
I got to agree with eminseventh about this run. It was also my first NY run of 8 in a row so I also have soft spot. All of eminseventh's highlights were mine too but the NYE show probably produced the biggest bummer when after Midnight Hour, Phil and Brent started into Morning Dew and Phil waved his arms like he was joking. Jerry then goes into Good Night Irene and Phil walked off stage.....he came back about half way through the song but I still think he wasn't too happy about the song selection. Considering the band had been playing St. Stephen and everybody was expecting it, the show was kind of a letdown from that aspect but there was still some strong playing throughout the night.

Thank You!!!

Jerry's voice was completely shot to hell, but this was a fun show. Something about the Estimated>Eyes jam really sticks out for me too. I heard it described as the "new years" sound, whatever that means.
