WBAI is a listener sponsered station in NYC,
part of the Pacifica Network. The was a Grateful
Dead show called Morning Dew that was on from
3:30AM to 6:00AM. This night they were on from
midnight to 6AM and were pitching for donations.
I was friends with the guys on the show and used
to come in and play roots songs (original versions
of cover songs that the Dead played).

I was there this night to play some roots
stuff as part of the show. Before the show
started we went down to the Village Gate to
meet Les from Relix records. While we were there
Solar was setting up to play. After a lot of
begging, they agreed to come by the station
and play live after their show. They arrived
about 4am and started playing about 4:30 AM.

I recorded this on a Toshiba VHS VCR that included
a PCM digital recorder. It converted the audio to
14 bit/44.05Khz digital and then encoded this
on the video portion of the tape. So this is
a full digital recording from the FM broadcast.

Different Donovan in RR. I think his name might be Jim.

Tom Donovan had a band called "Freudian Slip" - both before and after his stint in Solar. He also played in a band called Rum Runners, made a solo CD, and is presently in Splintered Sunlight.
