I did the best I could with the names of the tracks
on disc one - since most of it is unreleased stuff -
I guessed on a few - feel free to submit corrections
if you may know the correct song titles.
This is the most complete, and most HQ version of
these sessions that I've yet heard, and felt they
deserved to be shared. Enjoy!

anybody like a particular tune out of this studio recording?
drdapsoy 2009-01-19 19:52:36
Great collection. The sound quality on this collection is absolutely superb, for the most part. Most of the disc 3 tracks have tape hiss, indicating they may have passed through an analog generation. Levels tend to fluctuate from track to track. Also...

1) d2t5 and d2t18 are the same recording. 18 is longer and of higher quality.

2) Misty Glade #2 and Meatstick #2 are also lower-quality duplicates of their respective #1's. They are not alternate takes.

3) "Rebirth" is "The Happy Whip And Dung Song" with lyrics.

4) d2t4 is NOT "What's The Use" but a brief unknown instrumental.

5) The first time this was posted, someone "in the know" claimed that the real names for disc 1 tracks 1,2,3,8, and 9, respectively are: Shrine, Backrub Tool, Your Blood, Old Age, and The Cataract Song a.k.a. Hick Into Walkin'

6) There is about a minute of missing music during the "2-second gap" which was edited out of d1t5, when compared to the Siket Disc version. (same music recording)

get this...lots of great varying takes on songs

This is like finding a lost Phish album... thank you! It's sort of their Basement Tapes, a kind of retreat, in several senses, an attempt to reinvent the band... not the wood-shedding I expected, given what SotG became (the album version of Ghost is tight enough to be Kamikiriad-era Donald Fagen (which is also a good thing). It's neat to hear grooves from Story of the Ghost with direct, naturalistic production (I do not know what song I am listening to but it is simultaneously strange and reassuring (Imagine this as a triple album Story of the Ghost, sketched over a sprawling a White Album canvas, and open to weirdness, and humanness. Has Phish become a "real" band? What if they had released *this* as an album instead of SotG? Would they be indie heros instead of something yucky that hipsters flee? You'd overhear conversations, "Yeah, they've got two good albums: Junta, or however you say it, and the Ghost one..."

taperwayne 2009-01-27 00:07:09
I prefer this to the actual Ghost album.
