-- THE SHACK PROJECT --
This is an effort to seed all existing MMW shows, and yes, preserving the original SHN/FLAC filesets. The seeding will proceed chronologically for the most part, with exceptions as we feel the vibe to seed other gigs from other times.
Thanks to MMW for allowing their music to be recorded....really, thank you.
Huge thanks goes out to the tapers, without whom this wouldn't be possible...and those that have helped get the tunes to our ears.
And thanks to the other 4 guys I've dragged into this and who seem committed to the cause: Louie, Mike Tom & Todd....we're all listening to these shows and hopefully circulating the best versions.
All shows listed here in SHN/FLAC will be seeded:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmw
These shows will be seeded as well, either by me or by one of a few other kind souls:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmwaccess
Shows listed here circulate in some manner. We are looking for as close to the original source as we can get so if you can help out with any of the following, we'd all appreciate it:
http://db.etree.org/duggy/mmwneeds (this list is in the process of being compiled...maybe forever?)
I've started a thread over here for us to be able to discuss this project:

Oh, that's right! Another sweet '98!
This gig takes place at John's old high school...some funny banter from Billy when he thanks John's parents for giving birth to the guy! HA! But more importantly, a killer set of music...very fun Blue Monk Improv busts out of the Combustication > Seaven Deadlies...the Church of Logic seems real nice too, but I do love that tune...so of course I'm telling you to download this -- why wouldn't you???
This is from an unknown source, and I'll seed the FOB AKG source next, but it's incomplete -- it cuts right at the end of Bubblehouse and JLITPI is missing...

"i thought john grew up in jacksonville.."
I have no idea really, I just knew he was from Florida and Billy says how this is John's old school...John's family appears to be in attendance as well...

Thanks! Not that I doubt you, but I assume you are indeed certain of this information? Are you, in fact, the Unidecker! Aren't you!! HA! I just checked your db page and I see your email is unidecker, so thanks for the confirmation man...
AND THANKS FOR TAPING!!!
I've altered the source info above but folks will need to update their textfiles themselves...

I was the (primary) taper for this most AWESOME of shows - Unidecker (Rob) was patched out of me that night. Mikey was running an FOB way up front fwiw...
The lineage on the recording is indeed correct, Rob was patched out of my SBM-1 as well. The mics were run X/Y 90 degree @ approximately 12feet. The hall was acoustically designed & does make for a su-weeeeeeet recording, no doubts.
The explanation on the cut in Bubblehouse is simple physics - ran outta DAT tape, loooooong 2nd set. Missed maybe the last 20 seconds of the song, figures! Darned improvisors & their lengthy wanky jams, lol....
If in doubt & even with the small cut, this is an EPIC performance & does sound fan-freakin-tastic. WELL worth the d/l kids imho...
Hope the above helps those who needs to know....

DATman714, WE NEEDS TO KNOW! HA!
Thanks for the further clarification on the source! I'll add your name to the text file above, and the source entry on db.etree, as well as the info about the mic placement - thanks.
And the 20secs you were missing I think is just like the last note of the tune...damn wankers!
And yep, this sounds great man! Thanks to you as well for taping!
December (like April) tends to be a consistently good month for these guys, no matter what the year...

Oh, and we've decided to NOT seed this alternate 12/4 source:
http://db.etree.org/76121
...while this alt source is a FOB recording, and sounds good as well it is incomplete and we felt it didn't sound *that* much better than the source we did seed, so...if folks do want to hear the FOB incomplete 12/4 source, by all means speak up and I'll fire up a torrent...otherwise, this is probably the source you'll want... |

Thanks for sharing this & for all the additional info that has come to light on this
recording. One question still puzzles me, though--if this is from the 18th row with such
similar recording info
(the only difference being the oade pre-amp) to the 76121 version, can we deduce that
they are from the same place/rig, or is the other fob that much more fob?? A tad confusing.
Great show!!!! |

I think DATman714 answered your question with his post above:
-----------------------------------------------------
DATman714 2009-02-11 11:16:13
"I was the (primary) taper for this most AWESOME of shows - Unidecker (Rob) was patched out of me that night. Mikey was running an FOB way up front fwiw..."
-----------------------------------------------------
So, I think Mikey was the taper on the other source...or at least that's what I assumed...so yeah, it is still a little confusing...but the 76121 source definitely sounds different from this one -- I'd say they are not the same source recording.

That is a really good point, duggy, but on the comments for this thread on db.etree, I
found this:
-------------------------------------------
03/25/2007 -- 011968 -- Also mikey k's dat was not cut as the prevoius sources because he used a 3 hour dat tape not a 2 hour one like the rest because he knew it was going to be a long show as this was the school that medeski went to school at
-------------------------------------------
So, if Mikey's version wasn't cut due to his brilliant choice of using a 3-hour DAT,
then maybe 76121 can be assumed to be a patch out of Mikey's rig, no?? I do
believe Mikey K needs to step forward with his uncut fob of this awesome show!!!! |
| muziklvr |
2009-02-11 18:30:37 |
This comment also make me deduce another theory:
-----------------------------
03/25/2007 -- 011968 -- there were 3 sets of akg 391's at this show
one run fob by mikey k
one run back of room by ernie vogtlein
and one run back of house by david and sam
the one seeded an shared by larry fishman is from mikey k's dat master or at least should be. enjoy...
-----------------------------
This makes me think that there were actually 4 akg391 rigs run that night: The three
mentioned there, plus the 18th row one on this torrent. |

Freaky Deaky & lmao.....
Guess there was a bunch of guys with AKG fetishes that night, toooooooooo hilarious!!!
I am indeed Ernie & still love my AKG's (though I've moved on to 451's...)!! Sounds like AKG Anonymous, LOL...
Slight clarification - I phased & missed the 18th row bit, THAT was definitely Mikey (& Sean & Dave if memory serves...). Thought sure he was running Schoeps, but I reckon not, eh??? I was still FOB, but indeed further back, maybe 15-20 rows? I do seem top recall one other rig running as well, FOB/ROC down within the 10-15 row range methinks...
The way I identified this recording as being generated from my rig is the cut ending Set II. D'oh & woe upon me. All I can say is... if I could be like Mike. He is the man, the myth, the legend...
Of course he **coulda** warned me too! :-P
OK, hopefully this'll clear up the "Who's On First?" aspect of this thread. You may now all resume your regularly scheduled programming &/or de-programming if that's your thang...
Paz Y'all,
