| Description | This project is designed to go hand in hand with the Grateful Dead Listening Guide
(www.deadlistening.com).
The Grateful Dead Listening Guide is designed primarily to enrich the listening
experience of new and seasoned fans vis-a-vis the exploration of audience recordings.
Although soundboard sources are at times featured on the Grateful Dead Listening Guide,
this project's main goal will be to explore the audience sources suggested
in the guide. While different sources are appreciated by different people for
different reasons, this project will focus on the particular sources suggested in
the Grateful Dead Listening Guide along with a link to the guide's review of that
show/source. Most of the audience sources suggested in the guide are also available
at the Live Music Archive. This project's main aim will be to also spread these
sources via bittorrent to increase awareness to those who may be intimidated by
the amount of resources available at the Live Music Archive. This project is done
with thanks to the Grateful Dead Listening Guide and for your listening pleasure.

| The Moore source is allright, but the Hopkins recording (also transfered by D. Minches) is hands down much more enjoyable and the definitive master of this show. |

| Yes it is, only was 85 less than what was and those shows were pretty good. Must be those colored baffles hangin' from the ceiling. |

Thanks, nice to have this kind of info. A link would have been cool, also, sometimes time is at a premium and it can be difficult to track down sources. Anyway, thanks all the same.
OK, I tracked it down. If you use Firefox, you can use a plugin called "DownLoad Them All" and it can download all the files you choose on the site nearly simultaneously...

Source: Recorded by Steve Hopkins Master Audience Cassette; Sony ECM-99a > Sony TC-152sd with dolby b encoding According to Steve "we set up just about center ice, as i recall, perhaps a little to the right so we were more lined up with the right stack. if my memory serves me well, we taped the microphone to the top of a walking cane and hand-held that about 2 to 3 feet over our heads and above the crowd."

nope, 17178 was not Dolby decoded and done on not-as-good equipement. So 83xxx is the one to get.

Thanks for the info, tilomagnet.
It's strange, however. In my own comparing, I feel like the 17178 sounds "brighter," with some possible high end enhancements - which is why it has a little more hiss too, I think, but sometimes that's an okay trade-off to get a certain sound. The 83xxx sounds duller to my ears. Just my taste, I suppose. Thank the good Lord for giving us options. |
