>>> The diff is probably from Mule taping at 16/44.1 and this one was recorded at 24/48. Even thought the were both seeded at 16/44.1, this source has more data in it.
the above is not true. both seeds are 16/44.1 now, and that's what matters...
in regards to this one being ~487MB and muletaper's being ~685Mb, there are probably two reasons. First, the latest version of FLAC (v1.2.1) was used here. I'm not sure what muletaper used, but if it was an earlier version, it might be compressed less (and thus have bigger file sizes). The other thing that would affect overall file size would be the levels. Generally speaking, quieter recordings have higher compression ratios, so muletaper's recording is probably recorded hotter. (when recording at 24 bit, you don't need to record with the levels as hot, so that likely explains why the mk22 was recorded a little quieter). So, that's my guess as to the differences... different versions of FLAC and different levels on the original recording. |

Thanks for the explanation Jasonsobel - both recordings are enjoyable for those of us who missed the shows.
Warren sounds fine but the Mark Karan+ Steve Kimock sound of '98 would be my first choice for '09. |

'98 was a great year for music. my favorite year of Phish. Cowboy Bebop came out (anime series with an AMAZING soundtrack - no doubt, if you love music, you'll love it - isohunt.com or boxtorrents.com is where I'd look). MMW were tight 'n funky. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a Zelda game focused around music, came out (it was also the first 3D Zelda game). Wow. Right there. Bam.
Also, thanks for this up! |
