Thanks to all the John Hartford seeders! It took nearly 4-days to get this all. I can't wait to start enjoying these shows.
Here's a little JH tale to share:
Back in 1980 or '81 (who can remember?), as an undergrad at Southern Illinois U in Carbondale, about 15 of us went over to Cape Girardeau, MO, a little town just over the Mississippi, to go to an all day bluegrass fest. It was on some field, perhaps at a community college, I can't really recall. There was a stage constructed just for the fest. There were maybe 200-300 people spread out on blankets. We had coolers of food and beer (and some other fun things) for the day. Very loose, no worries bringing in beer and stuff (this was just before the Reagan era began). By the time John got on stage, we were all feeling pretty loose and happy. John was playing with a band and had an FM mic for his fiddle. We formed a kind of drunken-happy square dance circle, about 15 of us and a few of our new festival friends. Just then, John started wandering around the crowd jamming on his fiddle. He found his way over to our group, and planted himself in the center of our circle for a song. We were so thrilled, there we were dancing our own combination fig and space dance (yeah, we were a bunch of Deadheads) With John Hartford leading us! He was so gracious and bowed as he left the circle. Ahhh, he was such a national treasure. Here's to John.
