Here is last night's Ryan Montbleau Band set from the Ark in Ann Arbor. I love this venue! I spoke with "Q" from Massachusetts earlier in the day as he put me on the guest list to record. I stopped for my take out from Sushi Town and mowed it down during my 8 minute drive until I found a decent parking spot 2 blocks from the Ark. The chances of Rock Star Parking twice in a row are super slim. I hit the line and called Fred as I did not see him. My error as he was third in line. I moved up and the person behind me said hey. It was Emily, Ron and Beth's friend that went with us to Nomo in Detroit last summer. She was with Jeremy. I treated her to my "plus 1".
Once inside, the doors were upstairs were shut as Zach was still soundchecking. They saw my gear and allowed me passage and I grabbed a spot in the 3rd row. I usually put my mics in the 3rd row and sit behind them in the 4th row, but tonight, the 4th row was all reserved. There was a nice young lady at the table in the 4th row, with "my" empty seat next to her. I inquired and she invited me to sit there. thank you Sara! I saved 2 spots for Emily and Jeremy.
After a very nice 35 minute set from Zach, Ryan and his boys took the stage. A very nice turnout gave them a very welcomed ovation. It had been a while since I have seen them. They started with Maybe Today that segued into the Q-Tip Groove of Gettin' Up. After 4 more songs, "The Trio" played a couple, It's All Been Done Before, and Eggs. Ryan excused the rest of the boys and played a solo. I think it is called More and More and More. It is a new one that he composed after he smashed his finger in the van door i Atlanta. He tells the story just before he plays it. He closed the set with what I thought was the best song of the set, Grain Of Sand. The Trio played the first song of the encore before Ryan invited Zach up to help with Inspired By No One. And boy did Zach help, lending an awesome 95 second lead on the electric guitar. The Ark was a rockin'! After the show, I went back and introduced myself to the guys and thanked them for a terrific show. I urge anyone that gets the chance to check these guys out. A very humble and infectious group of musicians. They thanked me for coming out and recording. No thanks were necessary as I enjoyed every minute of their show!
Dinner tonight consisted of a couple of Spicy Tuna Rolls, Miso Soup, and Tossed Salad with Ginger Dressing. I was not going to be denied tonight at Sushi Town! Great hangin' with Emily and Jeremy, Sara, Fred, Sara, and Shannon, and Dan!
