Here is last night's Gourds show from The Ark in Ann Arbor. I will be honest as it has been a while since I saw these guys. Wow, it was a fabulous show. I stopped by Charlene's house to drop off a copy of her show from the night before. And I also stopped at Sushi Town for my dinner to go. I arrived to fine Fred in line. I joined him and awaited doors. Doors were delayed as the Orange Brothers were still sound checking. When we got in, Fred threw my stand on my seat as I bought a ticket. I wet up and was ready to roll by 7:52.
After a short and "interesting" set by the Orange Brothers, the boys took the stage. The crowd was all riled up! It was a bit different from the usual laid back crowd. Evidently, there were many people that traveled to see these guys. I spoke with two couples from Grand Rapids in the front row and they were very excited. Nice to see the enthusiasm. Within a few songs, there was a good size contingent standing on the left side of the floor, hootin' and hollerin' and dancing the rest of the show. As I mentioned, not your typical Ark crowd.
I recognized a few of the songs right off the bat. I enjoyed most everything they played as they were feeding off the energy of the crowd. I love the way they all can switch up instruments amongst each other for different songs. Lots of acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, etc. Not to be missed if they are coming to your town! I love the way my recording sounds, could not have asked for a better sounding show! The show went later than 11:00, also pretty unusual for a weekday show.
Dinner this evening was a couple of Extra Spicy Tuna Rolls, Miso Soup, and Tossed Salad with Ginger Dressing.
