Here is last night's Blueground Undergrass show from the Georgia Theatre in Athens. I was kind of surprised to see this scheduled here on a Thursday evening after the spring semester had been over and most of the students gone for the summer. It did not stop Martin and I from traveling up though. We arrived around 8:40, and hit Little Italy for a Peperoni Pie and a Stomboli. I looked up and saw Dillon ordering some slices! nice surprise. He was doing a 16 channel recording for the bands tonight. A pleasant surprise I must say! Melissa and Jayne stopped by and after crushing some food, we headed over to the Theatre, one block away.
We set up in front of the board, 27' from stage. Roy from Charlotte was already set up as we entered. Good to see him as always! After recording both Curly Maple, and Stop, Drop, and Roll, BGUG took the stage at about midnight. The crowd was a bit light. They kicked off with Cheated the Man in the Glass>Black-Headed Woman. After that, Jef Mosier introduced Dave Blackmon on fiddle, yes! Always great to see the original fiddle player sitting in! It has been a while for me to see him perform with the boys, and how I remembered what a unit this was as they hit their stride during Orange Blossom Special! As Deep Elem led to the the John Hartford classic made popular by Glen Campbell, Mr. Blackmon re-appeared and stayed out for the rest of the show! They closed out with a mellow rendition of Black Muddy River. The encore was Clock Goes on and we were packing up to hit ATL!
Great hangin' with my house guest Martin, Jayne, Roy, Chard, Steven and Jesse, Tommy and his wife, and everyone else! The sound was very good. i could not help but notice the huge fan, sans the Orange Peel, above our heads. The recording still sounds very good.
Congratulations to Hugh and Alethia on bringing Wyatt Dempsey into the world today! The Lil' Wrangler arrived safely, weighing in at 7#, 9 ounces. Awesome guys!

zmantl-a friend of mine saw 100 shows last year-i was impressed-one every 3 or 4 days-bot 101 already-5 monts in-160 days or so-hows your wallet?cheers
