Lineage: Likely MC > Reel/Cass > DAT.Not definite as it was received in a DAT trade in the days before BT. May actually be from MC but many clunky between songs edits (repaired in this torrent) makes me believe it's not MC.
Quality: A audience. No hiss or talking anywhere near mikes. Supposedly from a set of mikes run by Healy FOB. Makes some sense given the complete separation from most crowd noise.
Flaws: Set 1 Several between song glitches repaired with cross fades. Fadeout after All Over Now & Fade In for China Cat.
Set 2 Fade in/out after CC Rider & Ship of Fools (minimized with crossfade). Good chunk of drumz is missing --No luck locating it. Abrupt fade out after Sunshine Daydream.
Transfer: Sony PCM-R500 DAT > HHB CDR-850> SoundStream WAV> mkACT SHN. Direct no EQ.

| poorlilwhiteboy suggested this as a matrix possibility, but I don't think mixing a high gen. board into this fine audience recording would do it must justice...but I guess we wouldn't know unless someone tried it...probably best to wait for a better board, though...even if one never turns up... |

| 12/13/80 would be a better show to Matrix since there are 2 good sources available and the board is below average for 9-2. Here's hoping a better source shows up some day for you to do your magic Hunter. |

'12/13/80 would be a better show to Matrix since there are 2 good sources available...'
There is absolutely NO NEED for a matrix of 12/13/80 since Charlie put this source into circulation :
http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=88964
This night and the following are two of the finest AUDs I have ever heard. I enjoy a good matrix but not when there is such a HQ AUD in circulation, and I am sure Hunter agrees - at least I hope he does.
Many Thanks for all the hard work Hunter! |

"There is absolutely NO NEED for a matrix of 12/13/80 since Charlie put this source into circulation"
I think I have to go with F_Johnny_Damon on this one. While the 12/13/80 SBD is better than, say, the 9/2/80 SBD, you still got some major hiss factor in there, while Miller's AUD is nice and clean and sounds great on its own.
However, I rarely share the "absolutely NO NEED for a matrix" idea on the matter, since some folk out there have indeed felt a need for a 12/13/80 matrix, in any case, and probably after hearing the AUD too. Why should we limit ourselves to matrix with only "not so great" AUDS???
If it is any consolation, billydlions, I did actually try to matrix this back when you or someone else suggested it as a worthy candidate, but I think it just was not working out on my end. I can't remember if it was the sound as being an issue or some overly tough sources to sync. But I'm glad I was at least able to pull off the 9/21/82 that you (or someone else?) suggested a while back. That was definitely a matrix "NEED" case. :) |

| TY!! I have been waiting for someone to put this show on here. Hands down the BEST Sugaree of all time... even better than Lake Placid 83'. |

| Moreover, the 10/15/83 I did recently used a STELLAR Miller AUD, but the good quality SBD was dry as a bone, so, why not? I'm sure some folk out there would prefer the AUD over the matrix, but I imagine there's a bunch of folk who appreciate the clean, up-front SBD sound with a good amount of AUD mixed in instead. I ALMOST made an AUD heavy matrix of that show rather than a SBD heavy one, but my instinct told me to go with a SBD edged matrix after much comparing. I'm sure if I made an AUD edged matrix of that source, a bunch of people would prefer that instead. But it was just a cleaner, crispier, fuller sound to go SBD edged - more like the sound you'd find in an "official release," so to speak, and it definitely sounds better that the SBD only Dick's Pick Six - which I am now matrixing, but I probably should not circulate it, unless it's somehow legal. |

I really should have prefaced my post with 'IMHO' seeing as, it is after all, just that - my opinion. Everyone has different tastes... If you are not a huge fan of AUD sources, I would highly recommend checking out Charlie's uploads of 12/13 & 12/14/80 taped by Joani Walker. I was never a big fan until I heard these two recordings - completely changed my mind!! Sorry if the comment came across as overly strong. It's just that I absolutely LOVE those two AUD sources!! Thank you CM, Joani Walker and all the tapers - especially Jerry Moore, may he RIP.
And thanks again to Hunter - your work is very much appreciated!! |

HolyShimoly!!! When did SHNID.26094 come along??? Where have I been??? My last download of this baby was in '05 with Skankweed's upload of SHNID.26458. I considered it passable if nothing else ever showed up. After 25 years of praying for an upgrade of my dreg Aud - and getting it, I never expected another one. I am shocked there is another one! I see a comment on 08.08. Almost a year on The Archive! Jeez. A lost year of bliss.
My god - what does this baby sound like? I hope it is as Hunter aludes to..."no need to do a matrix." If it is a great Aud - I am thrilled to no end! Can't wait to hear it. Killer night! Thanks Hunter for alerting me to the new source. I had NO idea it was on The Archive. With all the fuss a few years ago, I've been lackx with visiting and checking new uploads. I didn't think there would be many more new Aud uploads to research. I better start revisiting more often. Can't wait! |

| The only thing that puzzles me is the SHNID.26094 looks to be older than the SHNID.26458 I downloaded from Skankweed in '05? If it is a better source from Healy, and "newer" to the community, supposedly from '08, it is confusing. |

9-2-80, my 2nd show...
Minglewood with the heaviest drums ever > a monster jammin' Sugaree - what a way to start a show!

Second show. Wow. Lucky.
Hard to tell about these two sources. Both are about the same distance from the stage. I'd almost say they are the same. But there is just enough difference where I couldn't be sure. Jerry's getar is a little different. Minglewood crowd also cuts differently at 11 and 17 seconds.
Not enough improvement over the SHNID.26458 to pronounce nirvana. I wouldn't doubt this is a Healy since the sweet spot is probably another 15 rows up. There is a bit air in both. But I sure am a damn site happier having either one of these than my old tapes. Dat fo sure. If anyone ever did try a matrix...70% Aud - 30% Sbd please. And you might be right Hunter. This can't be improved upon unless a true, sweet-spot FOB turns up...
Shall we spin and face the Gangi. Bow our head and pray. |

| This was a wonderful tour from the heat lightning to rain at Edwardsville and the three hot days in Chicago and places like Cleveland and don't forget the Grand Rapids general admission show dancing in front of the stage during Not Fade Away. Then the east coast was a blur somehow running into Jerry while he is smoking a cigarette in the hallway in the hotel in Providence and then who can forget the great summer day in Lewiston where the grass was so lush for some tired feet after a long tour. BUT..... The Iko Dew Sugar Mag from this show is one of my favorites from this tour and I am glad to have it in any form. Thanks. |
