Here is tonight's Phish show from Alpine Valley Music Theatre. I will get this going and hope it seeds before i take Derek to the airport. My last trip there was 2002, for the Dead Family reunion. Getting to Alpine from Indianapolis was murder! We hit a traffic hold-up on I-65 in Indiana. This was a sign of things to come. It took us 5 1/2 hours togetr from Indy to the north side of Chicago, and over 8 hours ovrll to park at Alpine! The other bad news, David had my ticket and was over an hour behind us! Once we hit I-12, we finally drove the speed limit for the first time ALL day!

When Jesse, Derek, and I arrived, we headed to the front gate to meet Dave for my tapers ticket. We headed in around 6:30. The section was basically the last 8 rows of section 202. We were over to the right of the soundboard. After taking 1 look at how far we were back, I was not expecting much for sound. WRONG. I was very surprised at just how good it sounded! I actually ran my levels the same as last night. Plenty of sound. And again, Karoda's light display was spectacular.

The boys hit the stage just after 7:45. Punch You In The Eye>Runaway Jim, and Stash kicked off the set. They seemed to be playing with a purpose. Bahtub Gin is always a treat to hear. After the Antelope, it was time for a break.

The 2nd set included some beauties. I do not care for Waves, especially to open a set. But I soon forgave them for playing it as they segued into Sample. The heat was just getting turned up as Maze was next. Makisupa was up next. Trey made a reference to his parole officer in the chorus! Ghost>Lizards worked great! The last five of the set were also played great. nice seeing the Hendrix tune Fire.

Dinner tonight, was a large Pizza with Pepperoni, Sausage, and Peppers.

Great hangin' with Dave and Katie, Jesse, Derek, Greg, Rob R., Jenn and Christina, Dustin, Damian, Mindy Lu, Sarah, Bill, Mark, and the rest of the gang!

Enjoy show # 132 of 2009!

Thanks a lot for taping & sharing! I don't know about this delay in posting the show, though.... Making us wait a whole two hours after the show ended? ;-)

Very nice job as usual. I hope you are doing a good chunk of leg 2 Phish Summer Tour. Love these 4v's.

The B&Ks usually work very well at Alpine. Has anyone compared them for this show to the Schoeps?

Did you just say show #132 of 2009. Damn I envy you. I'm lucky to get to see a concert every 2 years these days.

Sorry you don't like Waves, I happen to really dig it. Thanks for the quick U/L and all the other work you do for us that are too broke and time strapped to go see these for ourselves.
LAStubbe 2009-06-21 12:16:56
^^^ To each his own, but I dig Waves a whole lot too. Have from my first listen. Lotsa nice renditions. I particularly enjoy the IT DVD version. Gives you a feel of how flexible that jam can be. Perfect tune for a set II opener.

Thanks for all your hard work this tour, everything sounds awesome! Thanks again!

I didn't ever really like Waves either, and actually like the album version better than almost all live versions I've heard (the way they do the intro before the theme sets in on the album is tops compared to the way it's done live). However, I have only seen it in Greensboro '03, and it was cool, but not as good as most of the show! I became a fan of the song after just seeing it in Knoxville, it was well played, and since Trey got his mind back and has ideas in the way of good thematic melodies again, this Waves was really good, plus the spacey shit into Ocean Sing was super cool.

No Simple this tour? I didn't see it anywhere in the lists!! oh well

Thanks a lot for all the hard work. It was super cool meeting some of the tapers at Deer Creek, you guys are my heroes.
AZStearns 2009-06-22 12:44:01
Didn't they play Simple at Fenway or Jones Beach?

Red Rocks is going to be crazy.

When are we going to get some love out here in SoCal?
