sorry to branch slightly off topic, but does anyone know of any free (and not too hard to use for the non-programmer but relatively computer literate user) software for burning 24-bit audio files? I don't have a DVD-Audio player so I'd need to make an audio-only DVD-Video disc.

My Onkyo receiver has a 24/96 mode so it would be cool to check out the difference to my ear b/w 16 and 24 bit. Thanks!
sirfunkenstein 2009-06-25 13:22:01
just connect the computer to the stereo and play it on winamp. The audio out on my PC is pretty lame, and I can still hear the difference.

"just connect the computer to the stereo and play it on winamp. The audio out on my PC is pretty lame, and I can still hear the difference."

My computer is no where near my main stereo, so that won't work. The speakers on my PC are decent for computer speakers but I seriously doubt the naked ear can appreciate much difference b/w 16 and 24 bit on such limited speakers. Am really only interested in playing a lossless audio disc via my DVD player, which is connected to my receiver...etc

digs5446 2009-06-25 14:37:49
wait - i just had a thought that might make me really dumb. I have a FLAC-compatible Sandisk player that I connect to the aux jack in my car and also use w/ my nice noise-cancelling headphones. Since these 24-bit files are in the FLAC format, will my Sandisk player play them? That would be swweeeeet.

digs5446:

This is what I use for making a DVD-video (audio-only) disc with these 24bit files.

Good luck!

You can also buy audio dvd creator. That will drop your 24/96 files down to 16/44.1

^^^^^^
Yeah, but that would defeat the entire purpose of what he is trying to do which is listen to 24 bit files understand why they kick so much ass.
Pappas3278 2009-06-26 10:08:44
Yeah, gilbert. Jeeeez! ;-)
mikeshoun 2009-06-26 14:07:32
