Here is last night's Dave Alvin and The Guilty Women show from the Ark in Ann Arbor. I had this on my radar for a couple of weeks. And, after 4 nights without seeing/hearing a show, I was past ready for some music! I was stuck at the office until about 6:30. I jumped in the Jeep and hit I-23 North fast into Michigan. As I went by the Ark on Main Street, I knew I was in trouble for the "sweet spot" as the line was almost down to Starbuck's as it was 7:25. I found a parking spot rather quick and sauntered over to the line, now in front of Starbuck's at the corner. We began to shuffle in and the entire floor area was filled with reserved signs on the seats. I chose to hit the right side and started to set up in the 3rd row, about 7' from stage. I overheard a lady in front of me telling her friends she and her husband had reserved seats but would rather sit with their friends here. I asked if she was not using her seats and she said no. Her husband gave me their Row G tickets. Row G is the first row of the permanent reservesd section! Yes, perfect!

It was a very good crowd, especially for a Tuesday night during a beautiful summer day. After the usual announcements from Robin and Larry of DTE, Dave and his entourage of women hit the stage. I recognized Cindy Cashdollar immediately. These girls are not only pretty, but they can throw it down with the best of them. They played a bunch of tunes off their newly released CD. Some great tunes and lots of interaction with the excited crowd. They closed the 100 minute set with Dave's old standard, Marie, Marie. What would a Dave show be without a Que Sera thrown in for the encore?

I have never seen Dave in this band configuration. He has played with the Guilty Men in the past here. Wow, what a show! I got more than I ever expected. I often ask myself after a show, would I go see this band again. The answer to tonight's question was unequivacably yes! I highly recommend anyone that has the chance, GO SEE THESE GUYS! Dave is great and encourages the taping of his shows. Spread the awesome tunes!

Great hangin' with Jeff and Steve!

Dinner tonight was a trip to Sushi Town as it was only 10:30 and they are open until 11:00 p.m. The lights were on, but the open sign was NOT lit. Uh oh. When I got to the door, they let me in, whew. I got my usual Spicy Tuna Rolls, Miso Soup, and a Tossed Salad with Ginger Dressing to go. Being a special evening, I saw I had 22 minutes to get to Culver's on exit 190 of I-94 for dessert as my dinner would be consumed in the 16 mile ride. Today's Frozen Custard of the Day was Bananas Foster. I hit the drive thru and ordered a Concrete Mixer with Hot Fudge and Heath Bar. I drove off into Heaven! Happy 25th Anniversary to Chris Cage and his wife Roni!

This is fantastic. It's Dave with the Guilty Women, with whom he recorded his latest CD (highly recommanded). The setlist holds songs from that album.

Looking through the list of the Guilty Women I of course recognized Sarah Brown, premier blues bassist out of Austin. She is a fixture at Antone's.

Lisa Pankratz on drums looked familiar, researched I realized I saw her tear up the Birmingham City Stages as drummer for Ronnie Dawson a decade or so ago, and I've heard her with Hayes Carll. Definitely the best female drummer ever, and a top drummer of any sex.

Amy Farris I 've seen with Alejandro Escovedo. She must destroy fiddles the way she attacks them. Breathtaking.

Cindy Cashdollar - seen her a few times in her 8 year run with Asleep at the Wheel. She must really know that Texas Swing sound.

Christy McWilson is unknown to me.

This is a superstar band - star as in talent. I hope the Guilty women stay together (with or without Dave Alvin playing lead guitar)
