I've had this show for years...primarily for the Alumni Blues significance. Maybe someone can confirm (who was there), but from what I heard, this was a trainwreck of a show. The jam out of Flufhead (30+ min if I remember correctly) is interesting, but I heard Trey was pretty messed up. Alumni Blues is one of my all time favorites, but it's definitely a bit sloppy here, granted they hadn't played it in 10 years! I also heard Trey had recently been kicked out of his house by the wife and maybe the Alumni line "my old lady kicked me out into the cold cold stoop" played a particular reference.
I'm curious if anyone can shed some light...thanks for the upload! |

hmmm....i was there and remember it being great. i haven't heard it in a little while so a playback is in order. this was the only 'tour' (holmdel->end) i ever had the chance of doing - so i may have just been excited to be in alpine, getting a 30min fluffhead and then completeing the run with two nights @ Deer Creek.
i know it's in my 'phish moments' database for the fluff, general 1st set selections and the encore...
i could be wrong....but i think this is a good show. |

I was there, though I could not discern if Trey was messed up. I was on the lawn and could not see the stage, and I do not remember hearing bad notes or anything like that. I just heard other comments about Trey being messed up that night; I guess he fell down at one point near the end of the show?
I do remember thinking at the time that there was a strange flow to the show. Fluffhead was undoubtedly a highlight. I remember thinking as it got further and further away from the song, "Wow, this is still Fluffhead?" And yes, the encores were very cool (kind of a rare, rarer, rarest set). I was also impressed that they opened the show with back-to-back compositionally complex songs of theirs - not too often you got that.
And it was hot 'n humid that night! It did not cool down until setbreak. |

| Also, my Schoeps source has The Happy Whip and Dung Song (only time played!) tracked out separately. Here it appears to be part of the Waste track. |

| more rumors... i didn't make it to this show, but a buddy told me the 4 songs in the encore were all special requests of a brother-in-law of trey's |

| btw, I didn't detect before yesterday that I don't have the Schoeps source of this one. Hope it will be reseeded some time and I can grab it. |

| I was at the show as well. second set was a disaster at times. trey completely mangled mango song pretty bad. they made up for it with the encore |

I love how polarized pholks are when it comes to this show. I only made to two shows on this tour - this here show and the tour opener in Bonner Springs. For me, the biggest disaster of the night was the opener. I was truly sick of Guyute from three years of it being in regular rotation. After that we were off for a ride, a really fun one. The Fluff and ensuing jam were amazing. TMWSIY>Avenu>TMWSIY was hardly a standard at the time.
Trey was clearly drunk during the second set. His vocals on Waste and Chalkdust are proof. But I don't think that's why he was flubbing the guitar parts during the Mango choruses. I've always gotten the sense that in his inebriation, he decided to experiment a little, and that didn't work out so well. If his drunkeness had affected his playing, he wouldn't have been able to deliver such a beautiful melodic solo at the end of the song. Or play the solos on Waste and Chalkdust as well as he did. But they were sloppy versions, probably the worst I've heard. The encore was one of a kind, and made the show that much more special as we were leaving to "How Deep is Your Love" on the PA. This show is worth the harddrive space if you've never heard it before. |

| i was at this show, and i absolutely loved it. i'll put up with a bunch of sloppiness any night for a "fluffhead" jam like this or the encore...i honestly felt like the encore was completely by accident; it felt like trey tried to go into "tweeprise" but fucked up and it sounded like "camel walk" so they just played it. it was insane, and i absolutely love this "chalk dust". from the lawn, i couldn't possibly comment on whether trey was fucked up, but i can certainly believe it. the whole show just had a very dark feel to it, and i love dark phish. |

| This show is a little rough around the edges, and the second set is criminally short. And yes, Trey was well lubricated and a lil' sloppy throughout (and he did fall down at one point, I remember it clearly). Having said that, this is still a great show and one worth downloading. The setlists are killer and there is a lot of great jamming in both sets. |
