Longest "Boogie On" ever?
chillwig 2009-08-03 09:14:08
hope everyone has a good subwoofer for this one ... you're gonna need it
phishie7 2009-08-03 10:05:33

Taylor - Thanks for all your efforts sharing Red Rocks with the rest of us. These shows sound great. The SOAM from Saturday literally fragged my brain on the subway this morning.

The subwoofer comment; are you saying that the bass is real heavy in the mix or that Mike's playing was superb.
cmgordon 2009-08-03 13:09:01
Thanks for your tireless effort out there. The sound is excellent. Hope you had fun among the rocks...
chillwig 2009-08-03 13:29:22
you need a subwoofer because the MK2 is flat down to 20Hz ... the bass is really huge on this recording and (unless you have a reference audio system) you'll need a good subwoofer to reproduce it well.

Taylor -

How long will you be taping on tour? After hearing your pulls, I'm dreading the possibility of having to download another source if you won't be taping. All of these recordings have been absolutely superb!

Thanks again,

- Matt

Funk,
after listening to the 8/1/09 show, I'd say a subwoofer is needed not because the bass is heavy in the mix but more so because it is very present in the mix... it really pushes just shy of being muddy (in a few spots), but instead it is just sick Mike bombs that is just great stuff that you can feel and hear very clearly.
What an excellent pull... Cheers to you Taylor!

Thanks for the great recordings. I think you really found the sweet spot.
chillwig 2009-08-03 15:37:40
okelnard, 8/1 was with the MK22, not the MK2. big difference in bottom end.
jkennedy 2009-08-03 16:36:31
thanks for the schoeps sources taylor, great to meet you and stoked you had a chance to run my omnis...cant wait to listen back to this magical weekend!
okelnard 2009-08-03 16:48:55
chillwig,
d'oh! I didn't even bother to read the mic info when I saw it was posted by Taylor... my bad. I do love the mk22 low end. thanks for the correction.

Thank you. The other nights sound excellent...!
Great job taping em. I'm not a Phish fan but have lately started to expand my musical taste & Phish is, as it turns out, really pretty damn cool & I love these recordings, they put me RIGHT THERE.
jahdawg 2009-08-03 20:11:47
great job all around...phatty phish bass...a taste treat kids love....
jahdawg 2009-08-03 20:22:20
for those inquiring minds - as far as the differeces in schoeps capsules go - the mk22 is an 'open cardoid', as opposed to the mk2 which is a true 'omni' capsule. Omnis tend to always suck the bass in big time more than others because they recieve all signals in 360 degrees.

still will be intriguing to see the difference between them in the same location, especially since most of the time splits are associated w/ omni capsules....

if this show is even half as good as the other recording is still will be bad-ass!

In Reba, during the jam, or second half of the song, I thought I heard several small digi pops. There were very soft, and hard to hear. Did anyone else here this?

I am going to listen again, but with headphones this time to double check myself.
tomcat9 2009-08-03 21:49:31
I just listened to Reba through headphones. I did not hear as many clicks as I did through my stereo. I made note of a few spots. In Reba, give or take a second, or two:
5:18
7:34
9:57
11:05

Am I hearing things? Anyone else hear anything at these times??
jahdawg 2009-08-03 22:52:15
do you hear the same sort of sounds during the crowd noise before the music starts on track #1?

as far as my ears can tell...checked yoru reference points, within a secod or two...

other than a few points where the low-end is pushing your speakers and headphones to their limit, there is some distant clapping througout the recording...you can hear everything with omnis...
stober 2009-08-03 23:08:07
Nice work Taylor..love the mk2s sound at RR
