sorry, meant "harmonics" not "harmonice." Although maybe I'll name my first daughter that, lol...
philthydogg 2009-09-02 20:05:13
Can't wait to hear this show!! Thanx Hunter for all of your quality seeds, I do have most of them.
People that I share a lot of live music with always ask me why the volume is so low on most traded live stuff. it doesn't really bother me but I would like to give an intelligent answer rather than the deer headlight-shoulder shrug. Is there a reason for this?
NJFunkNetwork 2009-09-02 22:52:38
The reason is compression (not "compression" like filesize compression in mp3 encoding, but rather headroom compression to make the soft parts louder). Almost all commercial releases use a ton of compression to make them as "loud" as possible, usually at the cost of the dynamic range (i.e. the volume difference between the soft parts and loud parts).
hseamons 2009-09-02 23:09:33
"Hunter, could you possibly matrix one (or both!!) of the MSG 3-81 shows?

I know Charlie just put out some very tasty soundboards that would sound sweet when combined with the Glassberg Nak-700 audience(s) that circulates...

just a thought...whatever you do is sweet, and thanks so much for that!

frank
("frankspicks" on DAT-Heads many, many years ago)"

frankie5,

The mother of all AUD's for a matrix? I initially thought it would be sinful and degrading to matrix that, but since you ask - you're on! I mean, I can't help but wonder what it would sound like, can you? Thanks for the request.

peace
hunter
hseamons 2009-09-02 23:11:27
Thanks for that info, NJFunkNetwork - compression is bad. Less is often more, but they should make disc-man and iPod players LOUDER (more volume capability) for NON-COMPRESSED recordings.
philthydogg 2009-09-03 02:02:51
Thank You for that information. That makes sense. Totally agree about the I-pod volume.
frankie5 2009-09-03 11:23:17
Hunter, i am commissioning a new bumper sticker that reads

"CAUTION: driver may be experiencing a smoking Hunter Seamons Matrix"!

YOU Rock, BRO!

Who needs one?
vernieb 2009-09-03 12:16:39
re: Miami 10-26-89
I have 1st gen cassettes of the whole show.
I was surprised only the 1st set is in the database.
hseamons 2009-09-03 12:26:45
Both sets are in the database.
dewey72 2009-09-03 13:10:46
I need one of those bumper stickers! Awesome idea and testament to the superlative work done by Mr. Seamons. I am continually blown away by the sound quality on these releases..and the faux DP's cover art is perfect! Hip hip hooray! Hunter Seamons!! Hip hip hooray!!!
hseamons 2009-09-03 15:17:26
Oh, and I'm totally keen on HS MTX bumper stickers..... ;)

That would be fun.
vernieb 2009-09-04 09:28:38
"Both sets are in the database."

Yes, but I was talking about audience tapes.
hseamons 2009-09-04 09:57:10
Is there a set 1 AUD in the database? I must have missed it.
mikeshoun 2009-09-04 20:19:36
Thanks much for the Boise. Great era of the band. What a run of shows that Sept.

I would request for possible matrix consideration 12/13/80 (killer show, 2 awesome AUD sources to choose from), 9/2/79 or even 8/13/91 or 8/18/91. Thanks for all your work on these!
mikeshoun 2009-09-04 20:20:28
I mean, thanks for all the many matrixes done in the past! :)
vernieb 2009-09-05 11:49:40
Maybe we're not looking at the same database!
I'm looking at the db.etree site.
Run66 2009-09-15 20:05:06
Thanks !
peacefulparker 2010-05-19 19:40:37
Thanks for keeping this going. These are great Hunter! Peace
