Cool, thanks for uploading these gems.

I've been waiting 8 years for this show to surface. Whoever had it, whoever uncovered it, whoever labeled it, and whoever got it here, thank you. The scene at the Auditorium was so chill and a total boogey down production. This after an already crazy night across town at the Metro for a 20th Congress throwdown w/ Melvin Sparks. I was about 2 hours late picking up a friend flying in from out of town the next day, still buzzing off red bulls at 1. Woooooo!

I would venture a guess that this was recorded by Mike Yurkis and Kurt (from Northwestern, I forget his last name). I'm pretty sure Mike had Schoeps that he typically ran on-stage or in a matrix.

Noice! Suite share...many thx!

This was a schoeps stage lip recording by Yurkis/Ruthe. Earlier in the night, they ran a matrix at the Sub T with Robert Walter and MANY MANY friends (Skerik, Stanton, Neil Sugarman, Fareed)

I have the full source at home and will try and get it up here. I patched out the master rig.

To my recollection there MAY have been another rig on stage but I never saw it surface (if it was run, it has an Shure FP 22 pre-amp in it).

This line up was so freaking epic and the place had only about 300 people (could fit 700-800). Tribute to Eddie Harris and Les McCann? Come the f*** on!

Still remember how sick it was to see George Porter walk right past me at the beginning - 1st time I saw him play in person.

Superstar on stage that night was James Hurt tho - man that guy can play keys.

I also have the on stage recording of the soulive set from the next nite (late night) at the Blue Note if someone wants to seed it here. Zak Najor playing Let the Music Take Your Mind after Alan Evans introducing him as the guy who through a series of events made Soulive happen.

EPIC WEEKEND thanks to Silverwrapper - thanks Big Ed W

Thanks! The other comments have me jonsed for this night's 20th Congress show as well. Can anyone seed it?

I had a lot of random weirdness occur to my group, including getting kicked out of the Metro by security for the J that lit up as they hit the stage, but I talked myself back in, suprisingly considering the security at the Metro are busters. Then Chuck Prada hitting on my boys girl, and offering to her a ride to this Aud show in a limo. Me and my buddy tried to ride the coat tails, and none of us went. Then Robert Walters chilling at the bar after he just got done throwing down on stage, George Porter thumping 5 feet from me, the dance room we had in this place was awesome. I remember walking out with the birds tweeting and sun starting to show its rays. No doubt James Hurt was a musician that kind of just appeared, never hearing him before, blew the cover off the place, and then disappeared. Still haven't heard or seen him since this night.

George Porter Jr. and Melvin Sparks on the same stage? It was like witnessing the recording of a Blue Note live album, and having a funked out dance party to it. Silver Wrapper has always done it right! This could have been a JazzFest show with 1000-2000 at Tipitina's or something. I'd love to see that 20th Congress show as well.

Great sound to this one.

I've got the SubT Robert Walter and Friends set dmtx on DAT and CD (w/EAC). If someone wants to do the DAT transfer I will mail them the DAT...it's 3 hours long of music:)

Here's an article on James Hurt, published in 1999:

The guy smokes!

Need to clarify my earlier comments:

The Robert Walter and Friends show with crazy guests: Skerik, Stanton, Fareed, Neil Sugarman (and some others) was 8/5/2000 at Subtaranean in Chicago.

2001, Robert Walter and 20th C played at the Metro pre-this show at Logan Square Aud.

Both were silver wrapper gigs. Just plain mixed up my "party" nights.
piper>guyforget 2009-09-08 11:13:54
That was another awesome night of music. Anytime you have Stanton holding down the groove, and in a room that small, it's magical. I downloaded that when Silver Wrapper had downloads off their site way back when, and it was one of my favorite downloads and listens. If that was your source, it was crystal clear. Thanks for all of these.
