DAUD: AKG c568eb (OTS, pointed at stacks) -> Aerco Pre-Amp -> Sony D-8 @ 48KHz -> MDAT -> DAT clone -> PCM-R500 (playback) -> s/pdif coax -> MOTU Traveler/MacBook Pro/Digital Performer v5.1 (transfer, peak normalize, fades, split tracks, resample to 44.1KHz) -> .aiff -> xACT v1.58 -> FLAC (level 8)

Recorded by Art Newberg & James Bartoli
Transfer and editing by James Bartoli

Notes: My Sony D-8 at the time was broken and being serviced, so this transfer comes from clones I made from Art's master DATs shortly after the show. One patch has been taken from a set of master CD-Rs that were run circa '03-04 from Art's master DAT tapes*. The patch supplies the crowd noise between the end of Cold Rain and Snow and before the start of Viola Lee Blues.

*patch source: MDAT -> Sony PCM-R500 (playback) -> coax s/pdif -> Tascam CD-RW700 -> MCD-R -> MacBook Pro/xACT (CD extraction) -> .wav -> Digital Performer (up-sampled to 48KHz)

patch location:

I love this show. Drove out from Denver, and, not really knowing the area or being familiar with parking, I ended up parking pretty far away, on a little strip right before the onramp to northbound 101. Some dudes pull up and take the spot in front of me. I ask them if they have extras and yes, they do, a pair in the front section. Perfect, as I'm supposed to meet my sister, who was working for a dot-com startup at the time, under the playbill. Well, we didn't meet up (cell phones were still not as prevalent as they are today, if you recall). I ended up selling my extra to a cool dude from San Jose who was as big of a Sharks fan as I was an Avs fan. So we talk hockey and take in the first set. Solid, nothing exceptional though, but the buzz is in the air that Phil is in the house. The second set roars to a start with a huge Jim. I am half in the bag from good beer and being able to travel to see these guys, who have skipped Denver every summer since their ban from Red Rocks in 1996. This here year, 1999, they were skipping us altogether, phucking inexcusable, but I'm not gonna miss my chance at a show or two. The YEM starts up. Three tramps roll out. Holy shit, it's Phil. Wow, Phil really can't jump on the tramps that well, and fusses around with his amp for a few. The bass duet is a gorgeous surprise. That's it, the show is made for me, the rest is sheer bonus. I'm not crazy about the tunes that followed YEM, but I was way too up to care about song selection. The rest of the weekend was spent hanging out with my sis, finding her an awesome apartment in Cole Valley, and hanging out in north beach and in Half Moond Bay. This was the last great Phish show that I saw...Their show here in August was pretty much awful.

Thank You, Mr. Wiggums. 99 tour was fire. I have a gap in my 99's from here through December. Who knew I had to wait 10 years to the day. You're the best and I'm a tell friend. Thanks.
