Here is last night's Jesse Henry and the Royal Tycoons private show for Nate Fisher's 40th Birthday Party! I was down in Athens as we have a game today at Ohio University. I was able to get the catering prep work done in time so I could attend this glorious occasion. I met Scotty at his house late in the afternoon, and along with Milan, we headed northwest up to Columbus. We arrived about 6:40 as other guests were arriving. Adam from Breckinridge was in the house and was running Nate's rig (Assurance that it would record an entire show!). We set up about 8 feet from the plywood board stage, tonight's "sweet spot" to be. I have seen Jesse countless times over the years, but mostly with the Spikedrivers. This was my first time seeing the Royal Tycoons. I immediately noticed familiar faces in the band, Larry Cook and Nathan Anders. I already had a comfort level and good feeling about what I was about to see.
They kicked things off shortly after 7:15. I really dug their sound, Nathan on the Xylaphone was very cool. Some originals with a spattering of John Prine, The Band, and some traditional blues made for a well rounded set of music. The last 2 songs of the set featured Ashley Hutchinson on vocals. Ashley is a 14 year old, and student of Jesse's. I give her tons of credit for getting up in front of this gathering to sing!
Between sets, we had 2 clown performers entertain the us. I told Nate's Mom, the kids are enjoying the performance. She quickly reminded me that every adult was standing their taking it all in as well. How true. Kate and Blake, Nate's wife and son, led us in the singing of Happy Birthday Nate! Clair, our gracious host and Nate's sister, made a funny presentation.
I was so glad I was able to make the scene. After thinking about all the people I saw tonight that I have met over the years, it is only because of Nate. I have met so many Columbus folks just because of Nate! He is a great friend and VERY popular figure! And, ALWAYS fun to be around. Those of you that know Nate can attest to that.
Great hangin' with all of Nate's family and friends! I have hung with his parents at Spikedriver's shows in the past, FOB of course! I have hung with Clair and Jeremy at shows before, and his brother Kyle at the mid-Ohio race track recently. And of course countless times with Kate, Blake, and Little Lilly at the house in Clintonville. Top notch folks!
Dinner tonight was an assortment of food from a concessin trailer, hired for the party. I enjoyed an Italian Sausage Sandwich with Grilled Peppers and Onions, a Philly Steak Sandwich, and Fresh Cut French Fries with Malt Vinegar. There was an ice sculpted shot luge with Tequila, Vodka, and all the other necessities. The bar was stocked with top shelf liquor, along with 2 kegs, and many assorted bottles of beer and wines. The Cabernet Sauvignon was quite tasty!

Sounds like a great time! Worthington is a nice little town. I miss Columbus after 4 years of living there. Nice job here!
