Here is last night's Ragbirds show from the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. I spoke with Randall about 10:00 as I was heading north on I-75 to check out Robert Bradley. That all changed and I headed west on I-94 and arrived about 10:55. It was their CD Release Party and their last local appearance for the next 3 months.Quite a gathering of folks. After Nervous But Excited warmed up the crowd, our good friends the Ragbirds took to the stage. They were pumped. They played a 90 minute set to a very appreciative crowd! The cool arrangement of a Jam>Brave New Beat kicked it off. Lots of the songs were off the new release. Evan Joined in his customary spot for Onyame Kokroko. It came much earlier in the set than usual. Also, on a bittersweet note, this would be the last time I would see Tim with the Ragbirds as the official percussionist. He has been part of the core of this band since I began seeing them a few years ago. He has done a fantastic job and I have had many great times with him over the past few years! I wish him and his wife nothing but the best! Near the end of Jump, I told Todd this would blend perfectly with Jump. Five seconds later, JUMP! Mr. Belafonte would be proud of this version! Glad to hear Red-Haired Boy slide out of the Tipi Baya! I am glad they still pair these 2 up. After Tyler Duncan sat in for the Dununba, they came out for the Romanian Train Song for the encore. Then a thank you and goodbye to the band and I drove an hour back to take my rest for this 14 hour work day in Bowling Green. Great hangin' with Cory, Todd, Dave S. (not recording tonight), Evan and Autumn, Christin, and everyone else! Mike Boyd certainly had the sound dialed in! Dinner tonight was Spicy Chicken with Sno Peas and Broccoli, and some Pork Fried Rice. Enjoy show # 210 of 2009!
