and then they tore it down.I remember the hundereds of hells angels at this show. And the vending on the common near the lots across the street.

Thank you! I think they tore it down in 1989-

I was at this one too. The GD hardly ever played a bad show in Philadelphia, and their set was rockin'. The Dylan set was long and dragged a little in parts, but hey, it was Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead.

Nuttin' like a Grateful Dead show (especially in Philadelphia)

Garcia graced the audience with his steel peal guitar during "I'll Be your Baby Tonight".

Thanks...love the conversation that you can hear before "Grey." "Bringin' back a lot of memories." priceless.

Would "Rob" have been Rob P. from Long Island? If so, I was with him for the GD portion of this show, and I have 1st gens off of his masters as well. Just wonderin...

ok weird. i've been repeatedly trying to add a link here, and all it does is kick me over to what was formerly geocities...fucking WEIRD.

anyway, while there are currently no seeds and i no longer have my original fileset, hungercity.org has three dvds of dylan sets with the GD on the 87 tour. do a reseed request on the forum, good people will likely respond.

"rob i forgot his last name but i do remember he is from great neck ..joe"

Yep, that's the same guy, I am 100% certain. I met him thru mutual friends from Oswego. That was probably in 1986. I was with him at this JFK gig at the beginning of the show, but my girlfriend and I bailed to mingle, plus it was REALLY crowded down close. I DID get 1st gen analog cassettes from his masters tho, they are still here in my garage. . ... Rob was a taping buddy of mine up thru the end in 1995. Last time I saw him was in Philly Spring 1995, and he came in late carrying a Sony D-10 Pro DAT, and got a last-minute patch from my rig.

Later on he was part of the "lazy cow" video gang, (In the late 80's and early 90s). I would often furnish those guys with high-quality VHS and 8mm tapes for their video rig, and in return I often got 1st gen vhs tapes from his master vids after the show. Rob is a great guy, a classic New Yorker, and many of you tapers likely know him at least casually, but you know those video guys had to TRY and keep a low profile. ... ;-) We sat directly behind them during many shows, including the Greeks in 1989 and the Warlocks Hampton gigs in 1989, and we were watching the show on their 5" color video monitor at the show :-) . What a hoot. Anyway, they used to have about 7 video decks plugged into their tube camera/nak mic rig at each show, with a mixture of S-VHS, 8mm and BetaMax decks. I think Rob's masters were moatly from an 8mm machine, but he likely had some VHS masters as well.

Rob suffered a stroke several years ago, and he is quite debilitated and living in a nursing home now. I tracked him down a while back and spoke with him on the phone. It is an unknown how many of HIS 8mm video masters have been transferred and shared. I have a feeling that MANY of his 8mm tapes HAVE NOT been transferred. ..I DO know that they are all in storage with a girl he knows, and I have dreams of getting out there to visit him, and to possibly find out more about his video stash, and possibly get them into the hands of our LL video editors ...... somedey. That's a pipe dream as of today, but ya never know. Chances are that S-VHS masters of most of the shows he has have already been transferred, but it would be nice to check out those 8mm tapes. .....

Anyway, try to send Rob some healing vibes, so that perhaps he can heal to the point where he can tackle this task himself.

It really kicks me in the gut to find out how many of the old gang are either gone or in a bad way. In all honesty, that is why I sent out all of my masters to be transferred and shared .. so that in case something happens to me, all of that effort has been digitized and distributed as widely as possible, so that those shows can be preserved long after I am gone.

Long Live The Grateful Dead, the Deadheads, and those lovable strange breed, the tapers.
