Thanks a lot giveitup for sharing another uncirculated '82 gem!! If others have uncirculated shows, rather than brag about them here, why not cross reference the JGB in circulation list and help spread the music by getting them out. We need all the help we can get and giveitup you're a superstar!

i want to second the emotion that Muletaper is super generous and by no means Hoards his music...far from it
careful with the accusations lest one knows.... |

| This is most interesting. I am the unknown taper. That's me, Jeffrey Knudsen, and Bob Nelson yapping before the encore. My original cassette is at Matt Smith's house waiting to get his a>d treatment and then on to the "GEMS" station for further peaking and tweaking. Then it will appear on LL. Meanwhile this version will certainly do. |

This is the final Garcia/Kahn show during their Epic 1982. Adding to this show's, "historically significant" status is that this would be the last Garcia/Kahn show until 6/3/84, which was a one off. Their next gig was another one off, a benefit show on 8/28/84. They would not do a multi-show tour again until they kicked off a short run on 9/28/84. With those credentials, all we would need to make this an all time special Garcia/Kahn show, is a strong performance. In typically Garcia style however, this is, hands down, one of the single greatest performances Jerry ever gave in an acoustic concert. Super-charged is the first thought that comes to mind. That description is not in any way limited to either his playing or vocals. Both aspects of his performance on this night blow the roof off the building before firing it off into the sky. According the local news reports that night, The Stone's roof shot by two Navy Jets attempting to set some kind of new military air speed record.
That's right, Jerry is spitting such hot fire on this night that his guitar blew the roof off a building with such force that it outpaced Navy Jets flying well past Mach-3. I get goosebumps just thinking about the way he sings Dire Wolf during the show.
I'm eternally hopeful that somewhere, someone has a better source for this show and will be remastering and uploading any day now. As far as 82 Garcia/Kahn recordings go, this is about average. Don't make the mistake of hearing that as a bad knock on this recording. 82 actually has a boatload of excellent Jerry side project SBDs and AUDs, many of which were remastered from an already excellent place. Any issue you may initially have with the recording will disappear quickly when the hotness takes over all of your brain function.
DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS!!!
This gig features a very different style and vibe than the generally agreed upon top JG/JK show of the year(5/5/82). (Fwiw, I'm in the, 5/5/82 is a perfect show and among the best Jerry shows ever camp.) I say the above first because I don't find 9/7/82 and 5/5/82 competing shows. What makes each exceptional is unique to the respective night. That said, I'd bet if there had been an A+ sound quality source of 9/7(as there has been for Oregon State Pen as long as I can remember), 9/7 would be mentioned alongside 5/5 whenever folks discussed the greatest Garcia acoustic shows. I don't hesitate for a moment when I say, 9/7/82 is just as great, and if we're focusing on the level of Jerry's playing, easily greater than 5/5/82. It's that good.
Sorry for the rambling. This show is criminally under hyped. I plan to change that in 2012. |
