This was the last show for Susan's band before the recently announced "hiatus". It was also the night before Susan's birthday. Her husband Derek Trucks played Montreal the night before, and with a night off Sunday, he was expected to make an appearance. Instead, he showed up with his entire band. We were treated to a sit-in by Derek and vocalist Mike Mattison on People. Bassist Todd Smallie, keyboard player Kofi Burbridge and drummer Yonrico Scott replaced their counterparts in Susan's band for the Feeling Music Brings. The first encore, Gonna Move had both Kofi and Matt Slocum on keys, in addition to Mike and Derek.
Spanish Castle Magic, with Derek and Susan dueling on guitars provided a thunderous climax to a great night of music.
Many thanks to taper Casey Coniff for sharing his source with me. The boomy sound of the room was no match for his hyper-cards, which gave a much nicer recording than mine.

Geisel, I saw maybe two tapers at DTB's Rutland, VT show on the 6th. I'm jonzin' for any recording from that night, let's hope that patience is truly a virtue :)
I was kinda' hoping "whynotus" taped that night, his recording are very sweet.
If ANYONE knows of a DTB recording from 11-06-09, please advise ;) |
