| jman74- according to the comments on LL the GEMS folks are not planning on offering a 16 bit version of this transfer. You may draw your own conclusions as to how this decision impacts the community. |

| Great show! is this the best source out there though? Just wondering. For those not into 24 bit yet get a program called Audio DVD creator. YOu can probably fit the whole show onto one DVD (at 24/48, two discs at 24/96) and play it back on just about any DVD player. |

| Well that just sucks, perhaps someone else will do the transfer and circulate it. What happened to LL...the kind tracker? |

| If you want 16 bit why not grab this and do the conversion? |

it takes 4 minutes for R8brain to convert this to lossy cdr for listenings purposes AND its free...the impact is nothing. ZERO.
a MAC user ( read 1/10th of the worlds computer users..a drop in a HUGE bucket of windows) may have to pay a staggering 19 dollars for a program to make 16 bits from 2496, but MAC users should be very used to paying for stuff. If a maccie has a free choise for SRC, plz share.
the impact is now 200 people have archived a 24 bit transfer of a 37 years old show...much more meaningful.

get used to this as well....we have about 100 more shows like this from the 70s that will circulate as 24 bit..
cdrs were invented in 1979, right when Disco was cool.
every third of a century even the oldest, staunchest stooges can move on up the technology ladder...

| Is this correct? Convert to 24bit WAV----use R8BRAIN to convert to 16bit WAV...Reflac with TLH with sbes checked off. :) |

| Just a quick technical question... when I d/l 24 bit flac files and convert to wav (Flac front end) the files sound strange on my computer. They play s-l-o-w, kinda like when a tape a playing at half speed. Is it my PC's sound card or am I doing something wrong in the decompression? I really want to start using 24bit but need to solve this issue. Thank you in advance for the information. And of course, thank you for the show!! |

*stoked for all the upcoming new transfers*
BUT: The comment threads are going to be full of requests for 16 bit and grovels for help converting. Just saying. |

convert to 16 bit...
check "fix sbes" and round backward and pad the last file w zero bytes
thats the TLH default anyway.
the longer a 24 bit seeds with no 16 bit, its simple math that more people will then own 24 bit.
please keep the 16 bits for personal use..as you would mp3s or ogg.

hey Jamie, since when is Disco not still cool? ;)
if it wasn't for Disco, we wouldn't be enjoying the hell out of that monster 20 minute Shakedown > Sex Machine > Shakedown that Furthur laid down in Wallingford!
thanks for caring enough to give us the very best transfer possible - future generations are so lucky (except that they won't ever see or experience the real thing)
There really was nothing like a Grateful Dead Concert!
thanks - Zeb |

| Disco was simply step 1 of the drum machine finding its place in the world. You can't go straight from inventing the new gizmo to Squarepusher, y'know? |

24 bit rawks! I am sure there is a previous 16 bit version out there. it is very simple. Flac front end will decode. Audio DVD creator will burn them onto CD. Use your old Cds in the car.
Please, please keep the 24 bit coming! I long for the day when the Betty Boards will be transferred again at 24 bit! |

| Oops, I meant Audio DVd creator will burn them onto a DVD. sorry. |

| For those interested in converting, use Foobar. It converts 24bit straight to 16bit with ease, and it still sounds fantastic. You can also play 24bit on Foobar. |

Thanks for the new source!
LPLEX (free software) also does a good job converting wav/flac to DVD-V, up to 24/96 resolution, that will play on any dvd player.

thanks Jamie,I hope you drag others,as you did me,kicking and screaming into the future.well worth the effort to learn how to listen to this stuff, either thru programs like lplex on discs,or on a pc with 24 bit playback capabilities.

| Thank you for the high-resolution audio! I, for one, can hear the difference between 24 bit and 16 bit transfers. Peace. |
