| Yes I must say I was never a fan of this tour or any of 1999 for that matter. This series has really brought me around on the year. Not the best year for the boys, but certainly not the worst. Thanks blatboom. |

i'm also so glad i've given 1999 a second chance. i definitely see it as a year where if you went in expecting or wanting to hear the catalog of songs played precisely, you'd be majorly let down. but if you were into unique new directions, i think it had a lot to offer.
the jams had this abstract quality...not so much ambient jamming a la '98, but jams where Trey created a kind of fuzzy, distorted layer while using freak effects...not worrying so much about playing melodies or clear notes, but creating a musical pallette (sp?) to speckle bits of auditory paint onto. Me likey. |

| I had heard so many good good comments regarding another source, Microtech Geffel taped behind the stage, I think......I was wondering if anyone had done any sound comparisons between the 2 sources????.....I will download this now, thanks |

| I must third the comments about re-appreciating 1999 with this ten-year lookback series. I think a few bad apples of '99 (more in the summer, I think) usually steer me to another year when I want to listen to something. There were some gems here, like others said. I now have a better understanding of the year and look forward to listening to these shows again. |

great way to describe 99 digs!
Layered, textured, fractaline...
what I love about late 99 is that they broke from the tension/release mold that had gotten so stale.
It was more about lifting the audience up into these complex astral planes beyond the simple pelvic thrusts of lower beasts.
Yay! |

| I love 99', you guys complain alot. I think 99-00 were the shows where you never stopped moving. Coming out of there with a drenched tshirt in your hand. |

"I love 99', you guys complain alot."
I might be missing something but i thought pretty much all the comments above were positive re: '99, with the main theme being that we maybe didn't appreciate at the time what their sound and direction was all about.
one of my favorite aspects of Phish is being able to listen back to a certain era with a whole new perspective. especially exciting for me is that fact that until now i've heard virtually none of either leg of fall '99 (except Cypress). i was somewhat falling off the Phish train at the time, but now that i'm fully back on, i'm like a kid in a candy store. |
