notes from other torrent:
Soundboard recording, a bit faint in spots, and a few cuts and mic drops here and there. Some of the instruments are faint, like the fiddle in "Orange Blossom Special", and the vocals are loud and raw. You may also see this as a Grateful Dead show or as "Jerry Garcia & Friends", depending on who the listener favors. Doug's out front singing and Jerry plays pedal steel for a good part of the night (see included photo). It does sound very Dead-like sometimes though, as you would imagine.

amended note for this torrent:
There seem to be two versions of this around (at least), with a few different tracks and the discs broken out differently.
THIS COPY was recieved as part of a large batch of Dead Dats that were supposedly from Dick Latvala's archive of shows that were NOT under consideration for the Dick's Picks series. Given out to close associates before his passing.

This version includes "Mr. Tambourine Man" as well as "Kentucky Waltz" and "Big Boss Man", so i believe its the MOST complete version in circulation.
tracking is left as was recieved ("roll over beethoven" etc. is actually a medley, as is the case with "shake a hand" which Doug just throws in a few lines from)
This version also seems clearer, less muffled (IMHO)...maybe there was a cass. gen. in the other lineage...I know at least 2 Deadhaeds that got this on Cass. shortly after i recieved my DAT and offered me a dub to CDR...

preserve and share!
PEACE!

***Amendment Text File***

Derived Lineage: MSR > C > Dick's DAT > (?) DAT Clone > CDR > FLAC

Lineage from source torrent file: "Dick's version" Master (reel) - DAT - DAT (clone) - CDR - Flac

This lineage is very suspect and almost positively incorrect. There is definitely a Cassette Generation not listed that exists on the FLAC files. According to Charlie Miller's notes for this shnid #89467, the Cass Gen was already on Dick's DATs. Joe Joops also has a Cass Gen and extremely similar lineage for shnid #12584: MSC > 1C > DAT > CDR (the other circulating copy for this show). I did a spectral analysis on audio track 1, shnid #89467 - there is definitely a Cass Gen., with the Noise Floor at approx. -90dB. This is what the posted lineage is based on. Whether or not there is a 'DAT Clone' generation is also in question.

All file names and FFP checksums are "as is" from the torrent I downloaded. You will notice duplicate track numbers, one for each disc with accompanied FFP checksums. Tracks titled 'Audio Track' are for disc one, and the 'Initialed Tracks' are for disc two. I created new FFP's along with MD5's for this torrent file seeded on LL. Take this information for what it's worth to you and download this show at your own discretion. I would rate the Sound Quality: B/B+. But you make your own judgement, I have been know to downgrade more than others. If you are a completist or archivist, it's well worth the bandwidth and time. Enjoy!

Wow! This looks hot. Thanks for sharing this, I can't wait to hear it. Love it when Phil plays bluegrass!
tml6171 2009-12-19 10:03:18
i know this says 'Garcia' but make no mistake...it's Doug Sahm's gig. if any of you don't know much about Sir Douglass, you really need to check this out. Jerry sings some but not too much, mainly plays pedal steel here. This is pure Texas hippie honky-tonk, from one of the most legendary venues this city ever had.

and oh yeah....there is dispute as to whether Billy played that night. People who were there (not me I'm only 38) have said that Billy was there but did not play. The drummer for this gig was more likely the guy from the 13th Floor Elevators. (Roky Ericson's band)
Waterface13 2009-12-19 13:57:35
Which drummer from the 13th Floor Elevators?
tml6171 2009-12-19 15:20:32
Benny Thurman, at least that's what I've read.
